Davetrials
The easiest way to solve this is just keep riding and riding until your arms are so built up that it no longer affects you!before my accident i used to get it and id been riding for 7 years, and with out sounding big headed, my arms pretty big so its not a stength issue.i only seem to get it after doing "sections" so say a sidehop i wont get it then, but long periods of on-off braking i get it mostly on natural though.I only used to get it when i rode natural, but since my accident 2 years ago, and in that time ive been smoking. i really should quit. but untill your actually addicted and have tried, then you have no say. jambo
i dunno if this would make any difference or just helps me to hold on for dear life a little better, i get bad arm pump when riding trails after a couple of longish descents, I found slightly beefer grips help. Might help, i`ll be the first to admit i much prefer the feel of slim worn to f..k grips? Edited June 14, 2009 by jambo
Captain Scarlet
I really only suffer arm pump from riding natural (I think its the uneven terrain which makes me tense as I can't roll over it casually).I've found that recently (trying some thinner foam grips) that thinner grips make arm pump feel worse (I'd imagine this is because my finger is extended more which requires more effort to full bend and activate the lever). And the main thing to investigate into is lever feel as Ali said. Try a 4 finger Magura lever, you can get the same power with less pull due to the extended leverage, therefore your arm works less.
Fishy
ohh, sounds interesting! Do you know the name or where to get it from?Thai oil is the shit, we've used it in rugby before when we've had unbelievably painful cramp. It's pretty expensive but it's definitely worth a try. TRA
when i did mototrials i never had arm pump, basically because i was riding more and the brake, clutch+throttle is a much much heavier combination thentrials brakes . So only way to get rid of it is either ride long sections every day , or put in extra effort to try and train with things such as tennisball or or something you train only brake finger on. And you need to do like 50-200 reps 10 sets. Sounds and is boring

Use this as a reason to really stop.As I said smoking sucks cock.Matt
toyota200x
I had used a magura on the rear of my bike when I first started & never really got arm pump. I switched to V on my stock for fun & then build a mod with a rear magura. I rode it a few times with the magura & the arm pump was un-real. It is just like Ali C said, you can barely lock the brake after awhile. I have switched my mod to rear V & have never had the horrable arm pump again. I might run a magura again if it didn't give me arm pump but V's have never let me down so I see no reason to switch. All my ridding buddies have had similar experiences & no one runs hydro brakes anymore.
hdmackay
I think that magura's feel quicker than V's?

hdmackay
Haha, I suppose I can't really say.Out of the V's i've felt, maggies feel quicker.I've never used a decent Vee though.
ogre
i find 2 thinks causearm pump, stiff brakes, and nerves. when i'm nervous i grip my bars + brake tighter so the tention is pwning my nerves. a stiff brake (magura with dual booster for instance) doesnt help but cables have a biting point where anymore pull doesnt affect the brake afaik. but it helps reduce pump...
