Simon1989
Im a complete noob to the trials world so you will have to bear with me......I would like to upgrade my brakes but I'm having a bit of trouble. I've just got standard V-Brakes at the moment, so could I upgrade to a Magura HS33 as this seems to be what everybody is running. Should I upgrade the rear first for example with a HS33? Are there any other parts I should look at upgrading in the not so distant future? Thanks for all your help, and I'm sure I'll pick up all the lingo and learn what all the parts do soon!Cheers. jim-p
If you have a V-brake on the front of your bike then you can get these: V-daptorsThese make it so your brake can be used with HS33 pads:HS33 Pads - A VarietyYou should consider whether you are using a Smooth wheel or grinded wheel, to choose what pads you are going to purchase.Ring Tartybikes (01772 323333) and ask them what pads would be the best to use with your set-up (Grinded/Smooth rim and the Use of Tar/No Tar).As you will still have a V-brake on the front theoretically; you could also purchase a new V-brake lever to give you a better lever pull and feel; I would suggest this lever to give a nice pull and feel as i would think many would agree: Avid SD7 Lever or you could also use this one Avid SD5 LeverAs for a rear magura if you have 4-bolt mounts then you can purchase a magura and put it straight on.But if the frame has V-brake mounts on the rear also i would recommend that you do the same as the first option that I suggested I hope i have helped you mate P.S: If you did not know about Tartybikes then I would strongly advise you to buy from them; either ring them (01772 323333) or go to their website (www.tartybikes.co.uk), as they provide friendly, polite service (over phone obviously) with Super-fast delivery (normally next working day, if ordered before 4PM). jim-p
Ive just looked the bike up on google and seen it does have the V-brake mounts. So the option I said in the other post about getting the 'V-daptors' would be a sensible thing to do along with getting some new pads and a lever (after contacting tarty and asking for advice). There are various things that you could change to make the bike ride better: Bars, stem, forks and tyres. In my opinion i think that best value for money for a better ride would be: (change the brakes to the 'V-daptors' and pads etc, do this before anything as the brakes are the most important thing) then you should change the bars: I suggest some riser bars - any of these; which ever take you fancy and stem: I suggest this one - Good price with a good rise and length as this would give a much better ride and doesnt cost as much as changing the forks (which can be done later. If you wish to change the forks aswell i would suggest these: Good strength and at a good price Hope this has helped

I can't fit actually HS33's?Hopefully I will get validated soon so I can buy some parts from the For Sale section!
Billiboi
Hey mate, YES you can fit HS 33's. You get adaptors that change 2 bolt mounts into 4bolts, therefore allowing maguras to fit in. When you buy maguras ask for EVO II mounts mate. will be about £10 cheaper and will fit your frame. Pics here mate!!http://www.selectbikes.com/index.php?act=v...mp;productId=59Or buy these, £10 then buy some maguras. i may have some for sale or im sure some1 else will in For sale section. You can post here when you are validated. Ill get back to you soon mate.Cheers BillyHey mate, i have just sent you a PM with my e-mail. Add me on msn and i can help with any problems.Cheers mate

forteh
Personally I wouldnt buy maguras unless you have dedicated 4bolt mounts (which you dont), save some money and buy a full set of avid sd7 levers and arms, some decent cables and get a couple of sets of heatsink (or similar) cnc v-brake pads Learn to grind your rims if you want them to work well in the wet and go from there. forteh
V-brakes are slightly different to maguras in that they dont bite quite as hard but they hold much better; with the use of trials specific pads for vees such as the heatsink yellows/whites/cousts and I believe the new TNN pads are coming in a vee format then theres no reason why they shouldnt be used If you take a little time to set them up (like any brake) and make sure the pads are hitting the rim square and at the same time as each other then you cant really go wrong. Keep the cable lubed with a light oil such as 3in1 or finishline wet and lube the pivots occasionally and you will have a nice light lever feel.Grinding your rims is where you roughen up the brake surface of the rim with an angle grinder, this increases bite and hold whilst making it work equally well in the wet (dependant on pads). Search through the wiki for grinding rims and you should find out what you need and how to do it.For reference I rode all day last sat in the rain at the abingdon ride and my rear magura (heatsink yellows on a medium grind) was perfect all day, as was my front v-brake (heatsink cousts on a superlight grind). trials ryan
To upgrade to maguras you would need EVO mounts, tarty include them with the brakes if you just ring up and ask!
