W3VRS
I cant help you with what bike is reasonable for your budget as ive been away from the scene for a while. When i first started trials i rode 20" then a few years down the line i rode 26".If your beginning i'd start with a 20" and see how you get on with it.Also depends what your going to be comfortable with. Alex@Flawless Bikes
If you are new to trials and only have a limited budget I would always recommend buying second hand bike, as you get a whole lot more bike for you money. As for size its really down to you but if you have been riding a mtb I would go 26".
Borat
Yeah, go for a 26". I think, ideally you should get an onza. They are amazing starter bikes and when you get really good, look into getting one of the pro series frames. Here in Kazakhstan we have alot of bike trials riders. Scott Gibbs
The onza bike do look like good value the components are pretty good i have used onza kit before and never had a problem. I would also agree the 26" would be better for a mtb convert, the onza spyra gyra looks pretty fit to me dunno about anyone else?
MikeWarner
I was in the same boat a month back and couldn't find anything I was really happy with at the price I wanted to pay. Instead, I opted to build one myself using bits from ebay and tartybikes. So far:Holroyd frame, forks, bars, stem, headset (FSA) and bottom bracket (FSA) off ebay (new) £100Magura HS33 rear 4 with post mounts (new) ebay £35Hope Mono Mini 183mm wavey disk (used) ebay £37Cranks (Try All), freewheel (Tensile), guard (Neon) (new) Tarty £125Wheels Echo TR hubs, Trailtech rims, Echo sprocket (new) Tarty £220Half link chain (new) ebay £15Grips £5Yellow Magura pads (new) ebay £8Genuine Hope pads (new) ebay £14I already had tyres and pedals. So far the cost is around £550 and the bike would cost around £1000 to buy an equivalent bike new. I was however lucky with the bargain frame (and bits) for £100 to start with. You have to be patient and wait for bits on ebay though - I was lucky with the HS33s and hopes too. Used wheels was difficult as I needed a mod stock rear. Used cranks always looked a mess and they was no way to know the condition of the freewheel, so bought those new too. Oh - it could have made it cheaper but I was going for a good balance of price, weight and reliability.I should have all the bits through the post soon and built up in a couple of weeks (photo to follow).Alternatively, I've seen a few decent used bikes going for around the £400 mark on ebay. Good luck. Edited June 10, 2009 by MikeWarner
