Kel
Hi,just wondering if any of you guys here uses the monty splitters?http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?pr...p;category_id=5i had one previously and it works great.. but when i was replacing the hose i accidently broke one of the "legs".. now i was wondering if i should get a new one and use it or i should go back to the the crossover.any recommendations and feedbacks are welcome?Regards, kel
JT!
There's never been any good reason to have one. The only thing they do is help bring the pads toward the rim more evenly, which tends to give the brake more bite and a better feel. However in trials hold is more important, which the splitter has 0 effect on.On the downside, you have the initial cost, extra weight, more places your break can leak from, very fiddly to set up, harder to bleed and in the case your having it's probably easier to damage.I personally wouldn't bother with another, however, if your hoses are all set up for one it might be easier, than to re rout your hosing. PaRtZ
Splitters can also help with setting up the brake, because the slaves arent confined to the bendy crossover, which has a habit of springing the slaves outwards...if you get me...but as im sure 90%-95% of riders manage without one, you dont Monty just decided to take some steps in the fancy direction when they came in with that i think

(Link to pics in my sig). They don't change the feel or bite at all really, just allows me to have a much cleaner hose line and use two M8/M6 slaves with each line going into an M8 shroud and olive, so I can't kick it off. It's almost impossible to kick the lines off, and it's no harder to bleed at all, I just use a slightly different technique and it works fine. The only thing that was tricky was getting the hose made up at first, but it's actually pretty easy, you just use the plastic clamps and use a piece of wood to tap it into the lines first, then the main hose.Cleanbikes did a guide on how to fit one but I can't find it. Bigman
I have always been tempted to give a splitter a go on my rear brake, might give one a try soon as i like the fact that the TPA will always push equal both sides when using a splitter, also as it gets rid of the crossover, setting up on my bike will be a tad easier.....Adam
Kel
thanks guys for all the reply.. i have gave up in doing the splitter.. I accidentally broke one of the "legs" of the splitter while hammering the splitter into the hose leaving me no choice but to go back to the normal crossover.. anyway i change the whole brake lines to the braided hose.. great improvement over the plastic hose.. stiffer brakes and firmer hold..Regards,Kel(P.S. Now without brake booster my frame flex)
Redneck
i use a splitter on the front of my monty and used to have one on the rear before one of my 10 year old calipers decided to break. i ended up getting a whole new system with a cross over. the splitter looked much cooler but i cant really tell any difference because the new system is just soo much more powerful any ways. im adding a second brake booster because my first one (10 year old booster) allows my frame to flex alot. i believe i have seen some aluminum splitters some where. those should be much more durable.
