Freewheel :(

Hi all, i have just been validated woo :). Thanks.

Went to ramsgate with a few lads today and had severe freewheel porblems. I have a freewheel that has the 4 prong removal thing. A guy in Addicted bike shop broke his remover and im just wondering if anybody knows how to get it off another way, before i attack it with my saw etc :)

Any advice welcome, i really dont want to have to buy a new crank :(

Cheers all

Also if i do need to replace my crank, whats the difference with these as i cant see any apart from the name?,

cheers

this is easy! As long as you don't care if you destroy the freewheel. You only want to save the crank right? See those 2 holes on the freewheel? They are the lockring you can ususally get them loose with a hammer and pointy thing it just unscews. Undo that pull out the pawls and clamp the freewheel piece down in a vice. Next part you need a frame. Look for an old frame you don't need anymore saw off the top tube. Put the crankarm inside the toptube and use this to spin it inside the vice so you have mad leverage. good luck. Make sure you turn the right direction hehe remember the freewheel will be upside down in the vice if you do it this way.

Why would you chop up a frame? Frame tubes are only 2mm thick at the most, and they're made of aluminium so I doubt it will be strong enough.

Just use a big steel tube over the crank arm, or hit it with a soft nosed hammer.
