Olly
I bought a Middleburn Super Pro bashring to replace my standard lump only to find the chain not running smoothly. Seems to either run over the teeth or catch in and get stuck. The chains a new Trialtech lite (3/32), been used 3 or 4 times.Solutions?Cheers. Fishy
The bash may need to be worn down a little bit on the inside where the chain runs.Edit: Or it could be the wrong pitch, try using a bmx chain? Guest
I have never touched a chain but most probably is the chain, do you have LBS near you ? If so try there.

Muel
I'm guessing the sprockets worn?Mine did exactly the same thing, it's because you're putting a fairly new chain on a worn sprocket, you've just got to wait for it to stretch.Does it actually suck up just catch? I've got a pretty mad tensioner so it couldn't suck up, so I just left and the clicky sucky gayness soon went away.
maxxis26
I'm guessing the sprockets worn? 2nd that mine did it with a new chain seemed to hold the chain on the sprocket get a new sprocket, that should solve your problems - dont forget to check the rear sprocket too though
Olly
The sprockets attatched to the bash so can't replace, and yes, very worn!I tried riding and it snapped my tensioner spring I had to ride so put the old bash on. Will let the chain stretch for a week then try again. Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated Will update next week.
DrEvil270183
If the bash is really really worn then you'll just end up riding around for ages waiting for everything to mesh together, risking hurting yourself. When the bashring/chainring is worn and chain is new, the chain doesn't it on the teeth correct so when you go to pedal it feels like the hub is skipping. Actually it is the chain skipping across teeth. It's up to you but if it's worn loads then you would be safer buying a new bashguard/chainring. Drivetrain always wears together. New chain, new sprocket and new chainring should ideally be replaced together. If you replaced chains often, then you get longer out of the sprokets/chainrings. Fishy
Can you get some pictures of the sprocket, of the actual teeth?
Muel
Mine was nothing like that bad, looks to me like the sprocket is too worn to work.
sstein
I'm pretty sure that is not because it is worn as it is not the chain jumping off but it is rather getting stuck between ring and bash. It could be that your chain is too wide, which it shouldn't be, or chainline might be off casuing it to drag to much on the bash and get sucked in.On the other hand the ring could be worn soo much that at the lower position the chain is pushed closer to the bash by the fact the ring is wider at the base than the top.I would say try changing the chainline by moving the position of the rear sprocket (closer to the centre of the hub) and if that doesn't work get a new ring! Muel
It wouldn't be catching the bash, I ran a KHE Collapse on one of these no trouble, the trialtech is a much thinner chain.Unless thats a different one to mine, mines the TI one but I don't know what year or anything. Muel
Mine's more worn than that, I'd say it's the chain!Mine was brand new though, and it was nothing like as bad. Very wierd!
Pashley26
Looks like an inch and a half chain on an inch and an eighth sprocket...
DrEvil270183
It's simply a case of new chain on old sprocket. You can see the chain isn't fitting on the teeth correctly due the the teeth being worn and the chain not. It's the small circle spacers in the chain that wear down. The circle spacers on your new chain are not worn so it doesn't it on the teeth properly. Try and wrap the chain all the way round the sprocket, If it leaves at any point rather than sitting fully on then it is 100% becaue the sprocket it worn and the chain is not. In which case, you'll need a new bashguard to solve the issue.
Olly
Cheers for the replies guys.Just bought this from the forum so will suck if it's too knackered to use Worth trying a bigger (?) chain? What do you recommend?
Guest
Do you have halfords or a bike shop there maybe worth going to them saying your looking into buying a chanin pop out the crank then ask them what chain they would go for. But I have a very limited knowledge on bikes.
DrEvil270183
Honestly, I've been a mechanic for I several years and seen this kind of thing all the time. If the chain won't wrap round you'll need a new bash. To be sure about the chain size, ring Dave at trials tech. He'll defo know if the chain usual works or not.
