Should I Split And Sell Or Hold Onto It?

Right. Im heading back to Aus and sending my stuff back in roughly a week.

I have one mountain bike im sending back. I just bought an Onza Woodstock 26".

Problem is I want to get an Inspired.

Question is, do I sell the Onza complete- or split (I dont care, which ever gets the most) or send it home with the rest of my gear on a slow shipping freight method and try to sell it in Perth, Western Australia where trials is pretty-well non existant.

I really want to get an Inspired and get to 24" street riding, more than pure trials.

I met up with some boys on the weekend for a london ride/meet and bought some Diety 2" riser bars and stem from Bionic Balls to make my Onza feel more "Streety". All who tried it felt it made a big difference.

What would you guys do in my position?

This is it here:

http://www.supercycles.co.uk/site_details.asp?ProductID=592 retail £1050

Instead (unfortunately) of Chris King hubs, it has DDG hubs. Echo rear rim (double walled), Onza Hog front rim. Planet X pedals.

Good things.... I bought a brand new cassette, brand new chain, spare new tyres (Maxxis Minion 2.5 rear and 2.35 front, both 2 ply Super Tacky's) freshly bled Magura HS33 rear and freshly bled Louise front (both done with proper Magura bleed kit) with brand spanker pads on the Louise also. It still has the Onza 30" carbon bars and lightweight stem. The bars sell alone on Tarty for £64

Its basically a new bike when I bought it, let alone the extra Ive done and its a shame to see it go and lose money after owning it 3weeks but I dont ultimately think its what I'd use for riding in between my XC and the Inspired I'm chasing.

If I split hopefully I can get enough money to fund some of the build for the Inspired.

If not I'd take it home and try selling it on ebay.com.au or something. Its just more stuffing around. Wouldnt want the frame to go to waste if people only want the parts on it.

If anyone knows of a complete Inspired please tell me. If its just parts, or what you'd recommend for a setup, please tell me too. I want light weight parts though, which I know cost a little more... Phil still hasnt gotten back to me about his black Inspired frame he advertised. :(

Any help is appreciated as well as wisdom on a setup.

Cheers boys

Wes

Split or ebay in england.

Which it turns out is what he said ^

Hehehe :P Thanks for the reply anyway.

Trying to work out what these parts are worth. Im chasing really light weight components then for the Inspired, so maybe I should get rid of the Tensile Crankset perhaps?

I'll need light weight pedals like the wellgo mag1 or dmr V12s, lightweight stem (what angle would you recommend for the Inspired?)

The Onza stem is 110mm and 10degree. Danny Macaskill runs a 90mm 10degree.

Light weight front brake (Hope mini trial?) and rims. What rims/hubs (wheelset) would you guys suggest? Front free wheel or rear?

I may keep the Magura rear brake. No point selling stuff if I can reuse it and these are in perfect condition apart from the adjustment thread stuffing itself when I reefed the brake too hard :-( so would need a new adjustable lever blade also

My hope stem is very light and stiff, Plus it looks the bee's knees. so I would reccomend one of them if you have the money. I would say 90mm x 10 - 15* would be best.

light weight front brake ?

just keep your magura if it works, keep it :)

Cheers mate

Was looking and recommended to buy a hope mono trial front brake....

Was also recommended a Chris King rear hub, Middleburn cranks, Atomlab or Sun Ryno lite rims.

Cant work out whether to go for front free wheel or just a chris king rear.

Spoke to Tim @expressivebikes.com and he said a front free wheel is far cheaper than a chris king rear, but may not last as long. Due to the price of them though, they can be swapped for a new one around 3-4times before a chris king will give up.

What are peoples thoughts on FFW vs Rear?

rear :) just because it's so much easy'r in the long run. And easy'r to sell as well 24" rhino on a fixed hub will sell harder then a king on a rhino :)

How much for that? Im seriously after light weight parts. I cant see my 74kgs snapping a stem, so not caring too much about looking like a show bike

According to tartbikes, a 110mm hope stem is 176g so I imagion a 90mm one will be about.. 155g? They are about £60 which is abit much, but I got a brand new one for £30 on ebay.

if you had some pics of your bars and stem i may buy

Hey mate

Here are some pics

Im actually splitting it right now in the for sale section

Here are some pics of the bars though:

The white stuff inside the stem is the original factory lubricant. Not scratching or damage

If you dont get to purchace an Inspired before you go to Aussie.

There is a Dealer there http://www.expressivebikes.com.

Contact him and ask him, he may be able to get his hands on to a second hand bike for you. If not, you can choose the spec of what you want from him and he will give you a price for it!!

dyou have any mates down here you can trust? if so, split the bike. sell as much as you can before you leave, leave some postage money with your mate and a bit for a tip, get him to sell the rest and send you a cheque (Y)

Mmmm its not something ideal, but yeah. I think if it came down to absolutely no interest then Id maybe send it back home and hold it till someone wanted to buy it there. At least the scene back there is small and the only frames they mainly have are imported frames, so theres not a massive second hand frame market.

Ive got hold of the last one in the country. Ive got my deposit on it, but now people are saying that I should stick with my Onza and that its a streety bike/frame as-is.

I just want something far more flickable and chuckable and I feel a 24 would be better suited for agressive street and fast, nimble, technical stuff.... I spose if I change my mind I will just lose my deposit and simply walk away.... I just dont feel that right/good on the Onza, but also the Inspired I rode feels completely foreign to me with the setup it had (110mm x 37degree stem)

Thoughts?

Ive spoke to Tim for an hour on skype a few days ago

Even if I get stung on importing, its cheaper for me to bring the bike into the country with me than have to pay his percentage of profit on the importing costs hes had to pay, plus then sending it across from the east, to the west of Aus to me isnt cheap.

At least if I want to sell the Inspired in Aus I WONT have ANY trouble doing so ;)

Its just not good as the money im spending now is money we need for Europe :S

He cant get hold of any second hand ones. They just arent available and theres such a tight, tiny second hand market for frames as most people get their bikes built up and hold onto them. Its not like over here where you all get bored and swap frames. No one just "swaps" frame back home. You sell yours and buy another. It was so odd for me trying to get my head around Px! lol
