LEON
My pc is pretty sad, it plays radio and music out of nowhere......I have virus warnings featuring spelling mistakes......Basically I need some free anti spyware, strongest stuff you got. I know it exists as I've used avg successfully before, kaspersky aswell but this time it wont open because i "haven't uninstalled AVG8" even though i have! Also are there any files that absolutely shouldn't be on my pc and need deleting? There's one called WINPC which tried tricking me.Anyone have any ideas? I've paid for norton before and found it crap, i'm a tight arse tooLeon
Guest
try download.com ?Use windows washer that will make your computer alot more quicker. I've got trend micro plus it seems quite good, but im getting kasperksy.
Muel
I'd wipe it and start again, sounds way to f**ked to be bothering with!I'd get AVG and ZoneAlarm straight away if you wipe it, before you even connect it to the internet. Download the latest version to a pen drive or CD and get them installed before anything else. (May sound like I'm over careful, but if you're reinstalling your OS you want to do it right from the beginning).
beigemaster
Spybot is excellent. Also, Ccleaner is a programme you should be using to stop your PC clogging up.
Muel
Ah yes, forgot about them, I also use Ad-Aware.I'd also say download Eusing Registry cleaner from download.com, gets loads of stuff CCleaner doesn't. (CCleaner also gets a load of stuff Eusing doesn't get.)
fruitbat
Also, Ccleaner is a programme you should be using to stop your PC clogging up. CCleaner is spot on, I never used anything like that in 2 years of having my laptop, used that and noticed an immediate difference and run that every week now.Frooty

Otacon
Who's your ISP ?Were with Virgin and i use Virgin PC Guard, never once had a problem with it.But ofcourse, if your not a virgin customer, you can't use it. So, neither of these are free, but are the best alternative's: Norton Anti-Virus 2009 or Avast.
Orgun_Donor
If you don't mind paying a little for an anti virus then get Nod32. By far the best Anti Virus Scanner on the market at the moment. Although if your really cheap then either AVG or Avast are good anti viruses. Spybot is fantastic for ad-ware as well. Shouldn't need to use anything else to keep your machine clean and running smooth.P.S - if your having issues installing anything, make sure you have uninstalled all your previous have installations before trying the install again. Bronz
Avast all the way. Can't fault it.Definitely Avast. It picked up thirty viruses that Norton missed when I installed it. It's totally free and has always on scanning and web content scanning (if you head to a site that might give you a virus, Avast pops up and stops the connection until you decide whether you want to visit it) and it also has multiple (free) updates a day. MadManMike
There's no point paying for Norton / whatever or cracking programs when things like AVG / Avast are free anyway.AVG is much better than all the overpriced McAfee crap!

weebryan
Just buy an external pocket hdd 250gb for £50 from pc world, put all what you wanna save, i put pics and vids on, then formatted. Comp is free from anything and much quicker.thats what i done a few times all prgrammes, pictrures, videos anything that i saved or loaded i put onto a external hdd. Then either get your recovery disk and set computer back to factory settings which will wipe everything and will be like new or google how to go into recovery mode for your comp type, its usually somthing like hit f12,f11,or f10 on start up and do it from there, once all wipe and fresh download avg and zonealarm the 2 i have found best so far and thats that. I have done this on sevral comps from guys from work and it really does make some diffrence cause antivirus programmes only prevent they dont completley delete a virus and if they find one they normaly put it in a vault which stays there cause usually its a part of a programme and if deleted the programme wont run, and that why it runs slow,or things take over when surfing the net
