Achillies Tendon Rupture

Whilst riding on Sunday afternoon I decided to try a gap. Larger than I usually would but not massive by todays standards, probably about 7.5' and thought the worst outcome would be a puncture.

Ended up bottling slightly and landing the front wheel on the opposite side and putting my left foot down on the top of the 6" step. Thought Id got away with it well, then my heel carried on going on down and my weight went forwards.

Didn't even fall over but stepped off the bike and thought something is wrong.

Went to casuality and they suspected a tear. Gave me an appointment for fracture clinic on Monday where they re-examined me and advised that I had an op on it which they hoped would be on the same day.

Turned out the op was on Tuesday and I'm now in a cast for 6 weeks (no weight bearing) then gradual weight bearing with no exercise on it for a year.

Watch out where you put your feet on landing!!

I can't believe that something so simple can cause so many problems.

Cheers,

Jamie

I tore my achillies tendon once wearing the wrong boots when playing football, (blades in stud weather) and just ripped my leg backwards when going for the ball. Had physio, (someone on my football teams Dad was a physio) so got all the treatments for free and was back to form within 2months :)

It's weird how people get serious injuries riding trials - it always seems to happen on the smallest things. Like Dave from ThinkBikes dislocating his knee ( ) stepping off a 2ft wall, and this. The worse-looking bail I ever saw was when Damon snapped a chain going for a drop-gap off the top of a 10ft container thing, and yet he got away without even a scratch.

N.B. There are different degrees of tears though - from just a small tear requiring no treatment to complete rupture of the tendon, so I'd be inclined to believe your doctor, not some guy on TF (Sorry Simps!).

Anyway, get well soon :)

Hence why I said I tore it, not ruptured it :P

Maybe I was a tad drunk at the keyboard last night lol
