Freewheel Or Rear Cassette On 26?

i am going to be getting a new bicycle very soon and am unsure what to run on it. i havn't used many freewheels and been hope pro2 faithful for years but recently had 2 pro2's go on me and am not sure to use a pro2 on my new bike or not. Im not a light bike rider but freewheels are nearly half the weight of a pro 2 and might ballance the bike out as apposed to being rear heavy wat are your recommendations and should i make the switch.

Dont forget to add the weight of the hub onto the freewheel and it will come out about the same as if not more than a pro2 unless youre using one of the superlight hubs (tryall H or rockman) in which case its only 40-50g lighter. A standard king is 50g lighter than a freewheel setup. A front freewheel moves weight to the centre of the bike which, according to some makes the bike feel more balanced.

I now have a gu fixed rear hub and a front freewheel and i just feel better with it... nothing really wrong with my old Hope set-up but the tensile f/w i have has quicker take-up and as said above it removes some weight from the rear wheel giving a more balanced feel to the bike.

I love front freewheel myself....

and is that actually true forteh? thought it was about 100g+ weight difference... :S

EDIT: thought id check out my own setup....

Echo 135mm fixed 6speed : 256g + 181g = 437g

against....

Chris king single speed 332g + (As Tarty dont weigh the sprockets, I had to rely on Google) 80g~ surly 18t fixed sprocket = 442g

Maybe a shorter bb would decrease the weight of the freehub setup slightly as well?

Basically they're just about equal...on my setup at least...which kind of surprised me if I'm honest

Completely standard king is 285 grams + 25g for a ti bolt through (if youre talking about lightweight)

Rockman screw on is 190g (167g + 23g bolts) + 180g for a freewhweel.

Only 60g difference.

Of course the FFW moves the weight forwards and affect the balance of the bike.

true, just though id post up a fairly hd setup...as Im running echo cnc'd and a fsa bb

plus, the rockman is, lets be honest, going to be far weaker than the king hub

I think your maths may be off a fair bit there Alex... 332 + 80 doesnt = 442.... 332 + 80 = 412....

Besides which a 15t trialtech sprocket is about 25g :)

Either way there really isnt much difference in overall weight between a FFW and a king, the weight distribution is different though.
