Too Big For A Mod?

Hi,

Im starting to feel a bit uncomfortable on my monty 221ti. Ive come to the point where i can not get any better. Im 16, and im 5' 11. I weigh 13 stone and when i ride my 26 inch mountain bike, i can hop higher than on my monty. Any one had the same experiance with a mod? Would a stock be a better option?

I dunno really, it's personal preference so I don't think someone can properly answer it for you. I'm 6'4" and 14.5 stone, and comfortable ride mod (though I think I might look a bit of a tit).

My guess is you need to raise the handlebars on the mod if you're having trouble bunnyhopping but can hop other bikes. The only people I know with mod bikes are over 6 feet tall, so height isn't that big a deal, just get the stretch from the cranks to the bars right...

Sounds just like me when I moved to stock, I was 5'10 and about 12 stone, best decision I ever made. (Y)

You could try a longer mod frame, but I'd say just try and ride a stock if you can and try it out!

If you can make it to a group ride or two it'd be really handy for you to try a couple of peoples' bikes out for size and really help you to make a more informed decision before diving in at the deep end.

There's a fair few of us out in Plymouth most weekends (including this Saturday if you fancy it) so keep an eye on the Rides/Locations subforum (Y)

edit; you had the right idea as I was posting!

you could be right muel. I dont know why i said it was an 06. There was a monty back along in the forsale section on here, and the guy had it up as an 05. But someone commented saying the 05's had disc mounts on. Mine has the disk mounts so im presuming its 05 onwards. Probly not 07 though lol

I had a mod/stock predicament, although when choosing my 1st bike. Mine was not down to height or weight as I thought, but maybe down to my age (40). On the idea of purchasing a mod, I thought I might look like a Dad doing his Son's paper round.

Or even worse....

My advice, is ignore logic and go for your gut feeling! (I did, and bought a 24 ^_^ ).
