Looks like they've used a medium grade sandpaper and scratched a cross into the drivers side rear panel (Ford Ka). It's approx. 5" x 3" and I've been told it feels rough but not deep.It's scratched white...if that makes a difference, perhaps a base coat of some sort? However I'm guessing they'll sand away a section and re-paint that regardless?Obviously, I know nothing of this but I'm guessing some people have experienced this and can offer advice. I'll put up a photo in a moment when my Blackberry has finished updating.This won't be going through the insurance as the premiums won't be worth it. How much are you roughly looking at? A couple of my dads mates owns body shops, so I'm hoping this can be done slightly on the cheap but she'd like a estimate figure.Any advice welcome Photo to follow. Cars have been ran into, keyed, broken into etc.I thought it was a bit odd too, but she said she's not pissed anyone off lately...just one of those things I guess. I was right near the Cardiff Uni, it's not bad in most places around there. I wouldn't exactly say its a high crime rate either because most people in that bit are students - but all the locals are little f**kers, no doubt about it.Guess it's the same in most places like that now anyway. I stopped at Travelodge too, which was on the M4 Services, it's quite good there, very quiet.It's good down Cardiff Bay, and Barry Island just because of the cheapness of it all. Worst come's to worst and if it won't T-Cut out/compound, get some very light wet an dry (1500-2000 grit) an using water with washing up liquid in, lightly rub it down until the score's have gone, then bring it back up with compound and then polish. Most cars have roughly 30 layers of paint so hopefully you can gain them layers back!First rule - t cut is a no no, I don't care what anyone says, it's dreadful stuff!What you need is Farecla G60 compound, personally i'd use a medium grade. A mopp would be ideal (buffing machine) although you probably don't have one Apply the compound in a circular motion, then rub off in the same motion, you may need to apple a few coats.After you have applied the compound you need to protect and seal, therefore I would use Auto Glym Radiant wax to finish it off Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Your kidding right! Paint thickness on cars varies between 180 microns to 240 on some german wagons, out of that around 40% will be clearcoat.I would say looking at those scratches you should be very careful as to not strike through. Ideally you need a paint thickness gauge to check if it can be repaired without needing any paint. Give it a go and if it doesn't strike though then happy days if it does then its respray time.
