Andy Vox
Threaded my drive side middleburn somehow. I'm going to try an get it helicoiled an if that doesn't work mill it out an put an insert in. I could buy new cranks but i don't really want to. Anyone done it before? What size helicoil would i need? Cheers andy

Luke Rainbird
I don't know how easily you'll find a helicoil kit that's suitable but while you're looking don't forget that it'll be a reverse thread too
cai
it'll be a reverse thread tooReally? Thought that'd just be on the non-driveside..
Luke Rainbird
Maybe I'm thinking backwards, I think I am. BB cups are reverse on the DS at least
Andy Vox
The crank on the drive side isn't reverse for the pedal. It's normal. I'm hoping that a local place can do it otherwise i'll just mill it. Me an my mate had a thought, on the reverse thread, left size you could use the same helicoil kit an tap but backward. Like from the back side of crank rather than the front.
Ladd
I had it done on my GU crank when the threads went.. i got a tensile insert in by milling threads into the arm and then screwing the tensile insert in.. worked for years..

I've just snapped a spanner tightening my Ti axle pedal into Try-all cranks so its beyond me how people strip the threads on their cranks. I can only imagine you've either put it in wonky rode with your pedals loose. Good luck sorting it though.

I don't have a clue how i threaded it, i always check they are tight, an they were an i know i didn't put them in at a wonky angle. So i'm really not sure how it happened. Taking them to be helicoiled today hopefully if not they are off to work with my brother to be milled an then a thread insert put in.Andy
Pashley26
Don't mean to get on your back or anything, but just thought I'd second the "don't know how you strip your pedal threads" notion..I've been working in Bike shops for over 4 years, and I've built over 1000 bikes and I've never had one come back saying the pedals fallen off....But good luck fixing it, it's be a shame to throw a good set of burns' for the sake of a thread ! Try getting one of the inserts for the Truvativ cranks or something, might be able to do something with that ?
Muel
Drill and tap for a Tensile insert?
Andy Vox
Drill and tap for a Tensile insert?I have never done it before. and i always thought that when i heard that others had. strange...the bike shop said they can helicoil it for £10 so i let them have it. getting it back today. if not im going to somehow machine it to make a truvativ or tensile thread insert fit.
