Jackk-08
Hi,My crank is starting to wobble on the BB so I think the BB square taper is starting to get worn down. Would I be right in thinking that?So here are a couple of questions I need to ask...1) Which is better an ISIS or a Taper? (I dont know the difference)2) What tools do I need to change the BB over?3) What BB is best to go for? 4) What steps do I need to take in order to swope the BB's over?If someone could answer all of those questions I would be very happy!Bike is horrible to ride at the momment because it just constantly clicks =( Thank you,Jack
walker
Just before you go and buy a new BB, just make sure that it is definitely the crank thats wobbling on the bb axle, and not the bb axle being loose. Do this by grabbing both cranks firmly and see if they both wobble the same. If they do, then you should simply be able to tighten the BB up and that should sort the problem out.If it's just one crank wobbling then it might be damage to the square socket in the crank thats causing it, take the crank off to inspect it. If its damaged, then its probably new crank time (there is a bodge that you can do involving a coke can, but it wont last forever). It would be a good idea to invest in a BB tool to fit your bb and a crank remover
Jackk-08
Thanks for that. Now you say that I think I have both problems =PBoth cranks move at the same time when I wobble them but one moves more that the other haha It was a second hand BB when I got the bike built and I've owned it nearly 2 years so suppose its about time =PWhat BB is the best one to get? Jackk-08
Do you need any special tools to take a crank of the square taper or is it just a big wack with a hammer haha?
Echo-Scott
Crank tool would be ideal. But if your getting new cranks anyway then you might aswel just use a hammer to save you having to buy a crank tool
