0zzy
after my hate for maguras, ive decided disk is the only way forward. what disk would you recomend? and what size disk for front and rear? for mod. thanks in advance. ozzy.
Luke_zoo
As you are riding mod I would recomend 180mm rotor on a hope mono trial.
walker
I would definitely go for a 160 Hope Mono trial, they've got sufficient power, I'm even using one on my 26" and have been for nearly a year now. As long as you keep the pads and rotor really clean then you shouldn't have any problems. Other disk brakes include the Magura Louise, which is alright, just not as powerful as the Hope from my experience. The other route to go down is an Avid BB7 cable disk, they work very well, but I prefer the feel of hydraulics.Edit: Oh, and for the rear, I would recommend the same size for 20" wheels , just keep them free from grease and grime. Muel
Ozzy, just stick with the maggy, it's not worth upgrading if you ask me. When a maggy is working as it should it's way better than even a mono trial.Front mono trial, rear maggy is the best set-up by far!
0zzy
thats the thing though muel, ive had nothing but problems. its leaking somehwere now. i know its not hard to fix. but ive gone through about 4-5 maggies.
adam 94
Ive got a koxx with tryall brakes which are basicly hope mono's. A maggie can be made just as good as a disc although in my opinion discs feel more secure and sharper on the back wheel. Sam Oliver
You certainly dont need any bigger than 160 rotors,Anything bigger will just get in the way!Have used most disk brakes & found hope to be the best by far

stevem
I had a set of Magura’s on my first bike which were good in the beginning then went downhill from there on. Also on my new trials bike it had a maggie on the back, problem is because I run disks on everything I found them so under powered. Therefore my trials bike joined the rest of my bikes and had a hope tech X2 rear disk with the new fully adjustable lever fitted. Even though it has not got the correct rotor ATM (which halves its performance) it is still rather impressive. Once the new rotor arrives I can try it out properly and if I get a chance I may even pos a review.I had a set of Magura’s on my first bike which were good in the beginning then went downhill from there on. TTian
hi, hope, then marta, then louise, then bb5 or bb7, then others like hayes maybe.160mm is enough for both front and rear.
Rob L
I would go for Hope Mono Trial. As for rotor size 160 all round is good I find or a 180mm front 160mm rear. I wouldn't get a 180mm on the rear though as I find them too easy to bend.
