middleageman
Hello. I decided to buy some new pedals for my Zoot and chose the Revell Teams (from Tarty). I received them this morning and haven't fitted them yet, but I have a small question. Upon removing them from the box, I held the axle and gave a flick, expecting them to spin round like Pete Burns on the waltzers. They both nudge quarter of a turn. It's not that they are stiff, both are the same, they feel lubed and fluid, just not 'spinny'? As I'm recently returning to this cycle parts purchasing lark, I wondered if this was normal for platform pedals? Please excuse my idiocy, but I was too late to phone Tarty Bikes and would like to fit the pedals tomorrow, so any advice would be most welcome. MAM. Ladd
Yeah they will be like that.. after you run them on your bike they will get looser and feel a little spinny just need wearing in..
Ben John-Hynes
My onza magnesium platform pedals are exactly the same. Not entirely sure why, just are. When they're on the bike they're fine, you won't notice it at all.
Alex Dark
its so when you lift off the pedals, the pedals stay in the right position for your footits am oring that rubs against the pedal body i think....
JT!
Pedals aren't supposed to spin freely, if they spin 1/4 of a turn when you flick them then that is right.

Mike W
Theres grease in the pedals, they will be stiffer if they run on bushes rather than bearings also, nothing is wrong the grease will disperse with use.
Muel
The bearings are full of grease, they're new so the cups and cones might have high points and low points that havn't been "ground" in properly by the bearings, and the seals will be restricting the movement I would have thought aswell. davey1991
You'll probably find that you prefer them stiff, especially if you throw your legs around to balance. The pedal will stay where you left it rather than spinning around meaning you stand on the side of it.If you want to keep it stiff you'll have to re-grease it. If you leave it and ride quite often they'll be free spinning in no time.
