duckwars
I'm looking into getting my first trials bike. I've been lurking around these forums for about a week now, and this topic doesn't seem to come up as much as I thought it would.I'm about 5'8" and 190 lbs. I'm not sure if that should factor in to what size to get.To me, a 20" would be a good beginner bike because it is lighter (I would think) but at the same time the real reason I want a trials bike is to hop up onto stuff. I would think a 26" would be better for this just because you are higher up to begin with.I don't know why, but I'm leaning toward a 26" just because it seems, I don't know, less BMXish. Although, on the forums, here and observedtrials.net, people like the onza bird, which I'm thinking about getting. If I went the 26" route I think I would get a spyrogira.Any advice, thoughts? Thanks! lukegaigertrials
20" bikes ( mods) are smaller therefore easier to throw around more , but 26" bikes (stocks) are bigger so they arent as easy to throw around as much but they have bigger wheels which means they are more forgiving than 20" if you get something wrong.so at 5ft8 a mod might be a little small, but easier to throw around-which is good for a beginner,on the other hand a stock would suit you well size-wise but may be a little harder to get started on because they are bigger, therefore harder to throw about,i hope this helps Luke

duckwars
Are there any local people where you live who ride trials? If so ask them nicley if you could have a go on there bikes and see which you prefer.I really don't think so, but I need to put a post up on observedtrials.net.Once I saw a kid riding down the street (before I had any ideas about trials) and he was going REALLY slow and I thought he had a single-speed downhill mountain bike.I started thinking about whether or not a downhill mountain bike really needed multiple gears.I'm pretty sure now he was on some sort of trials bike.
