Tar On A Grind?

Recommended Posts

Basically - just bought a bike with a grind on the rim but the brake just doesn't seem to grab it that well - my mate uses tar on his smooth rim and it sticks so well

He suggested I put some on mine but wasnt sure if its ok to use on grinds? will it make the braking better and will it ever come off the rim?

tar would be a quick fix, but I would strongly advise not to use it long term.

What pads has the bike got? Is the grind sharp?

If they are just standard pads, its worth upgrading to some good ones like croco or rock pads (or TNNs when they are out if you want the best). If the gring feels a bit smooth, then I would grind it again to get it nice and sharp.

Cheers Ali,

The grind feels pretty smooth imo but ive not felt one which is fresh so im not defo - but the pads are heatsink - I think i will ask a mate to do the grind for me just now and see what happens!

Thanks

i use tar with a medium grind and koxx browns i think they are, although i did use standard pads on a sharp grind and the brake worked amasingly.

i did use the old koxx blocks on a dead grind and they seemed to work ok but i would definatly recomend putting a nice sharp grind on the rim and go from there
