What Fluid?

Ive been here for a week or so know and I've been reading as much information as I can.

I've seen a few bits and bobs about brakes, coming from a BMX back ground hydraulic brakes are new to me, except the ones on my car.

I've heard it mentioned a few times the different fluids that people use, like water, screen wash and oil.

What do you prefer and why? What are the benefits of each of these different fluids and also whats the downsides of each?

I had a thought as well "it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would" would a water/anti-freeze mixture work? Has anyone tried it?

As anti-freeze has chemicals in it that prevents the water from rusting/oxidizing the internals of the brakes which unless I'm mistaken a pure water setup would eventually do.

Thanks in advance.

HI, Well Water bleeds are favoured because They have better braking efficiency but then there is the problem of freezing

in the winter so make sure to put anti-freeze in the mix =]. People use screen wash becasue it is basically water with anti-freeze lol

Oil is the original way to use your brakes. It runs really smooth but is rather expensive. Water is probably the better way to go as you

can always get to a tap. Water = Free..... Maggie brake fluid = £3.91.

Also if your gonna bleed the brakes yourself your going to need This and

Yes water is better for your magura's you can out more water in your brake then oil as oil is harder to push more into when water is in your brake it feels much better bite and as Typhoon_Rider says, Water is free so it is alot easyer for you to bleed when I go on a ride i take a bottle of water to bleed my brake with incase i need to and extra stuff..
