Dean_Monty_Kamel
I cant sidehop high, but the only way i can do it is to the right with my right foot foward. It just seams natural. I am going to have a go to the left again, but really i dont think there is a "right" and "wrong" way to do it. Just find the style that works for you...maxhi guys, im not sure what to do now, like what simpson said "Neil Tunnicliffe does hop on the right side and has his right foot 4ward" and he seems to have no problem with it?so do i go with whats natural or change it? im on the fence now, think ill work on both and see what happens, when i practice side hops, ill try and so the same amount on both side, at different heights though!but watching neils vids on youtube has made me re-think about totally changing sides!whats you opinions?dean
shamus
its fair enough, if you really cant get along with going the 'correct' way then no one is forcing you buuuuut.... the fact the majority of us (average riders and pro's alike) sidehop that way must be for a good reason i reckon.i always feel more comfortable when hopping to have my drive foot away from the object as it gives me more room and a better angle/setup.but as i said originally do whatever gets you the best results (although as i 're-learnt' sides i can do both alright and it winds my mate up who can only hop one way lol)still interested to see what comes from the gapping tips though. i think i just lack technique in this respect, i can do alright just inconsistent

Aaron.Tottman
there's one reason for you 'Eskimo' gave me to learn the other way. (right footed, hop right normaly)if you bk wheel slip and the brakes locked you'll land on the bk peddle and it won't move.after learning 'to the left' i can hop just over 43inch. it kinda makes sence to hop this way....it's the way i trackstand with the bars turned to the left.to the left i'll land both wheels, but feels really sketchy....to the right i'll land front wheel first and drag the bk wheel up.doing gaps i'll still lean to the right a little!!!think it's cos you wieght is on you forward peddle it feels easier hoppin that way. side hopping any distance i'll still hop to the right.learning both ways will open up more riding options for you. Youtube Video -> Original Video P.S. any chance ofa little vid so we can see were your going wrong...or how to improve your tech'!!! shamus
err.... i can't be precise, perhaps a week or a fortnight? i just stopped doing sidehops the wrong way altogether for a while. I also concentrated on doing other things in that direction to accelerate the processhowever don't frustrate yourself, it's meant to be a hobby and be fun, if it hacks you off, move on and do something else for a while (but don't sidehop the 'bad' way)soon you'll just find yourself lining up for sidehops this way rather then the old way and not even realising, and it won't be an issueIts all a question of making something instinctive, after a period of repetitions and time your body learns the motions and they become natural again.my gapping lol, i was very comfortable at bike length (stock) using both the start further back and the edge-launched static hop.but now i am gapping maybe bike plus a foot. the starting 'further back' is all i can use to get this distance, just cant seem to throw the bike the other way. I notice that lots of people go at an angle and i don't, am i missing something here? I've tried it but just end up going straight.
