If it's a Middleburn ring, you can often flip them over to put the teeth an extra mm or two from the bash. The pins of a thick chain can get caught on the bash edges so this might be the case. Otherwise either running a thinner chain, machining the bash down a touch, or popping a few washers between the ring and bash may help.

Then again, it may just be a case that everything needs to bed in a little more
