Heyas,

I'm Sirius,

I'm thinking about starting trials riding, I've been looking into it for awhile now and I'm thinking about buying my 1st trials bike soon :)

I'm thinking about getting an Inspired fourplay frame and then just building upon that.

Is this a good decision d'you think? For a beginners frame like.

Any other stuff you lot here could spec me?

how easy is it to get into?

anyway,

Nice to meet you lot and hopefully I'll be coming out for a ride with y'all soon :D

It depends on what type of riding you want to do. Inspired's are 24" streety bikes, like trials with a bit of a BMX influence to them! Watch Danny Mac's new video and you'll see what I mean.

I started on a mod (20") and went from there. I found them easier to 'throw' about, as they're shorter and smaller, felt more comfortble. See if you can try a few bikes out and see what you like the feel of.

I used to throw a BMX about a few years ago,

I'm more interested in the whole streety type trials than the actual trials themselves, if that makes any sence lol.

I've dabbled with the idea for awhile but my mind was set when I saw this:

I personally don't think an inspired is an ideal first "trials" bike, I know lot of people may disagree with me but I don't care, I started riding my inspired after 4-5years of being on both mod and stock, the streety set up of my insipred makes it much harder to do conventional trials moves on, and I think it would be much harder to learn on an insipred than a more trials set up rig. i.e. to sidehop my bike i sometimes have to force it more than I did on my mod (just for instance)

However if your more interested in street, manual, bunnyhops and spins then its deffo the bike for you :)

Thanks for your input :)

What is the difference between Mod and Stock?

I'm looking at streety style more than traditional trials really I guess, like just being out and about with my bike, tricking off stuff etc... Doing street tricks.

Mod is 20" and stock is 26"

There really isn't a "traditional style of riding for trials, you could mean Montys and Ot Pi or someone riding a zebedi on the street...

Ah thanks for that,

I think I'm deffinatley going to go for either a 20" or 24" at first.

I'm unsure on how much I should spend as a beginner though. I want decent stuff that'll last but don't feel like getting ripped off today lol.

Just keep posting as you are, good sentance structure and constructive sentances, onces your validated on here you can pick stuff up in the f/s thread dirt cheap, theres an inspired on there now for £300 which is top spec'ced and looks like a bargin to me!

You can still e-mail people if they have it on their profile though :)

Why thank you for that :)

I cant stand it when people dont punctualte properly,

I've been looking through the f/s section already and seen someone selling an Inspired frame for around £180, which is a good deal,

you say there's a full Insprired on there for £300! That is a bargain!

How long does it take to get validated?

Also,

You'll have to forgive me noobishness,

What is this exactly and whats it for?

Thanks.

Hey Sirius,

At the rear of your frame, this hanger is used to attach the rear mech onto the frame. Bikes have mechs that used to attach onto the frame and the axle, but on dirt/jump/trials frames, they attach directly to the frame. If you catch your rear wheel and skew sideways, these can break off, but instead of damaging your axle, the hanger just breaks, making it easier to replace. Helped?

Oh I see, thanks for clearing that up :)

So it'd basically a safeguard against damaging the frame?

So the hanger attatches to the frame and the other end to the mech, which is attatched to the wheel?

Any pics to show examples?

I've been looking into some bikes, I've now decided it'll either be a 20" or 24"

I'm thinking about getting a Yaabaa 449 Senior if I chose 20"

The tarty set-up http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?pr...;category_id=10

or if I go for 24" I'll have Tarty's Inspired Fourplay Spec1 http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?pr...;category_id=50

I'm still undecided, only thing is that if I go for the Inspired it'll take awhile to get 'cuz I gotta save up lol.

so I'm thinking, I might aswell go ahead and get the Yaabaa and start riding atleast, then slowly save up and get the Inspired...

So now my question is... Think the Yaabaa is a good set-upfor a newbie?

Thanks,

Sirius

Wow that is a good deal!

I just wish I could afford it atm.

I'm having to save up for a new flat at the moment, so I'm short.

You've reported one of us for validation?

I wonder which one it is, it's like a lucky-dip haha!

@pfoster23681, Thanks for those links, I'll take a gander now.

No problem Sirius, I am a newbie myself, having just swapped a friend his bike for some old computer parts!

I'm learning just like you are, hence why I couldn't advise on which setup you should get. I'm on a 26" at the mo!

Ouu what PC parts did you swap?

PC's are kinda my thing :)

Their my job lol, that and I just love building them,

I just hope that getting a trials bike adds another dimension to my life lol.

How are you finding riding a 26"?

Is it easier or harder to do things on a 26" than to a 20" do you think?

The comp parts were old! Four towers, complete systems, but most recent was an athlon 64 X2 4200.

None of the systems were working, so to me only scrap value. He did get a 19" TFT though.

I've never tried a 20" for trials, used to ride a BMX for dirt etc, but that was a long time ago.

Guess I'm used to riding a 26", but my problem is the bike also doubles as a commute, so a seat is quite handy, even if it is low!

So what do you ride at the minute?

It has to be said that I am torn between starting trials or going dirt, which is why I joined this site. Gives me a better idea of the community, cost, and all things trials.

Oh right, wow an athlon 64 X2 4200, thats old lol. Good old AMD lol, their so losing the CPU war atm lol.

At the moment I'm just pottering about on a 20" BMX... atleast I think it's 20" lol, I'll take some pics when I can just to show you, It's quite funky! but the thing is it's heavy as hell!, I wouldn't even try to imaging the weight of it. I'm just using it to commute atm.

I'm thinking of buying this http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?pr...;category_id=10

A Yaabaa 449 Senior, I've been looking at it, it doesn't have any hangers on it as far as I'm aware at any rate,

Is it only 26" that use hangers then?

Link to comment

Yeah, only 26"s use hangers, because your 20 and 24's are single speed, and so don't have a mech to speak of.

At the moment mine still has the original gears on, but think i'm gonna lose the front crank and convert to a single cog. Need to keep the rear due to commuting! Need to get a guard as well because it's ripping my jeans to shreds! Mines a project bike, mainly because I like getting my hands dirty and "tinkering".

This is the main reason why I don't know which way to go, had a couple of BMX's in my time, had a GT, Robinson and many others!

There is a lot I need to do to my current bike, but the basics are in place! Ha ha.

The Yabba looks nice, like the paint job. My frame is all black at the moment, was thinking of a blue/yellow two tone paint job? Like the old Pilot Escort rally cars. I'll post pics of my shed when I take some proper ones!

Oh right, that explains alot about the hangers lol.

My BMX is Glow in the Dark Fluorescent Neon Pink :D

It needs a new spray 'cuz it's stopped glowing lol, and I have Gusset peddles to match :)

Everything else is pretty standard as far as I know, Diamondback frame but Fsck knows what everything else is bar the peddles, I got it off my missus' brother for free as he was just gonna scrap it, only thing i added to it were the peddles.

As I said it's heavy as hell, not just the whole bike but the frame itself,

I know that mod frames are or were based on BMX frames, I was tempted to just drop the seat and get a slim one, remove the gyroscope and change the forks, brakes, wheels, peddles, handlebars etc and try using that as a 20" trials bike instead but it wouldn't be any good imo.

The frame is just too heavy.

Yeah, BMX frames can be heavy. I remember my GT was a Performer and that thing weighed a ton!

I guess it depends on whether you like meddling with bikes. Glow in the Dark paint seems like an awesome idea though....... you got me thinking now!!!!

The list of things for me is endless:

Grips

Tyres

Crank

Rear mech

Guard

Forks (maybe)

Stem

Paintjob

Seat

And by the time I have done all that, I'll probably want to replace more!

By the time I become quite competent at trials, the fram will need replacing, because it's just a generic multibrand dirt frame, so I don't think it will stand the test of time.

Fingers crossed it holds on!!!

Yeah it rocks hehe, It didn't say glow in the dark on the tin, but it's bloody well bright enough!

I think I could meddle and fiddle and tinker and faff with this bike all I like but wouldn't see any real gains from it to be honest...

I'm looking to get hold of a decent bike that'll last me awhile while allowing me to make mistakes and not break at first opportunity lol.

Thats why I think I'll go for the Yaabaa, get better at trials and save up at the same time, then get an inspired :)

Oh how inspiring! :D

(pun intended)

I'm always messing around, sometimes I think too much for my own good!

I need some fat tyres first, cos it's only got 1.95's on it at the moment, and it looks seriously ropey!

You've got me thinking about picking up a second hand BMX now, just to relive the "glory days" !!!!!

What have you done????
