dave33
iv know king uk to return a hub with missing parts ans rebuilt wrong, total muppets............ king best hub going ever for the money, i had a 2nd had 5 year old one for 3 years never had a problem, never skippled, and iv had a new one, only becasue of the stupid 6 gear rule in comps cus i wanted to ride some comps did i change, only problem iv had is the flangles tend to die after 3-4 years, due to alu fatiuge same as any alu hub shell, iv got a faily new one at the mo, only changed so i could get 32 wide trials rim and it slipped a couple of times on me, but after it was cleaned and beeded its fine, but as for best hub for trials im not so sure, i think a front freewheel is more suited i also have kings on my i drive, bothe 5 years plus old and still as sweet as the day they were made...at the end of the day they are not a trials hub, classic is light enough for a road bike, and strong enough for a down hill bike, well iso, same internaly, cant get better than that
Prawny Baby
Here's a different opinion to all those so far.....I've been using kings for the past 7 years in trials. I've had 3 in total, and each one has given me one or two MAJOR skips, where it's completely failled to engage, and every time it's resulted in a fairly nasty accident.I still wouldn't ever consider using anything else though. Nothing else is made or designed anywhere near as well. I put the skips I've had down to me never servicing any of them, my current king ran for well over 2 years before it gave me any kid of skip. I've now blasted it out with wd40 and just slapped it back together, and it's perfect.I don't trust hope Pro2's at all. Seeing as mowgli manages to destroy one roughly every 8 weeks.... Rossi
Ive had 2 kings over the past 6-7 years. Both of which are now spares/repair.. They are dam good hubs and as a complete hub, worth their weight in gold! when it comes to servicing them and replacing separate parts, it gets expensive! Also the HD upgrades are pretty much essential for trials i find, which again isn't cheap. I've had my pro 2 about a month and a bit now, and I love it, much simpler! Better axles too!Hope themselves are local to me for added win not to mention the price difference... It has 24 ep's less than a king but its hardly noticable when you've riding. Mr Motivator
I'm more than happy with my CK Classic with HD axle, stainless steel driveshell and fun bolts. I've owned it for almost 5 years now.It used to skip untill I stretched the spring and it hasn't since. Also use a thinned out mix of WD40 and finishline wet xc in there. Gogz-
I love my pro2 trials, I had some problems with the springs at the start but its been working now with no skipping for 6-7 months. But I must admit I think FFW's are the way forward.

eskimo
I'm surprised at them results. I would expect a few people to hate King hubs just because people are different. But like said it's not a trials hub, and trials is pretty demanding on parts. Hence Pro 2Ts breaking even after updates.Hope you don't mind me saying that as i'm not actually answering the question you ask, plus i didn't vote. Greetings
Kings are a bit like Marmite, you'll either love them or hate them.It will either keep slipping all the time, or it will hardly do so.I've been running a King since late 2005. First a new one which was quiet and skipped a few times, then in mid 2006 a used one which must be at least 5 years old by now and it hasn't skipped ONCE. On the other hand, I know of many hubs which have been skipping like crazy, which kept braking and had to be sent off to the US for warranty. If you want to buy one, buy it used from someone you know had no problems with it. Mr Motivator
how i can stretched the spring if i doesn't have the "special" tool? The "special" tool is a load of shit. You just need a good quality punch and hammer and drift the bearing out 12-6-3-9. Then tap it back in with a socket. Easy.
Brian Bleech
King hubs work best if they are bedded for ages on a xc bike or something. Use it straight out of the box on a trials bike, it will probably slip/skip.
