Available Now! Each pack comes with 50 Taper Hex Nipples and a complimentary nipple key.

Aluminum nipples have been tried in the past as a way to save crucial “rotating weight” from bicycle wheels, but while the aluminum can be stronger than traditional brass nipples in pure-tension, they are also much softer, and it is all too easy to round them off with an ordinary spoke key. The Taper-Hex nipples use a tapering hexagonal shape to increase the thickness of the metal around the spoke, and the tapering shape also allows the key to slide down easily onto the nipple while also eliminating slop in the interface between parts. The result is a “perfect” connection that prevents deformation of the spoke nipple. The hexagonal head (rather than square) also helps to simplify wheel-building too. The key is designed to rotate in the tight spaces of a BMX wheel and it’s small enough to keep on your key-chain. 36 aluminum nipples weigh 0.6 ounces (16.5g) verses 1.3 ounces (36g) for normal short brass nipples.

» Proprietary taper nipple and key interface simplifies wheel building and maintenance.

» 7075-T6 aluminum.

» Black, Gold, Silver and Red various anodized.

Not that I'll be needing nor using them, but some of you who already spend a huge amount on titanium bolts, axles, and so on, will find these a nifty addition.

I'm guessing being made by G-Sport they are more targeted to the BMX scene?

If thats the case, I can't see the point in reducing "rotational weight" as that helps to maintain momentum. I've always found heavy tyres, rims and tubes help keep my momentum once I've got up to speed.

Never had any problem with ali nipples anyway, just make sure I don't ham fist them and all is well.

Lighter wheels make your bike feel ultraly awesome for spins and the like. I'd certainly rather save weight there rather than add it, and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I'm probably not alone in that sense. If you've got a decent setup you don't really need to worry about 'momentum' or anything like that really...

Totally. It's targeted pretty much specifically at BMXers who want to lose weight off their bikes. Though it does spill over into other cycle disciplines. I thought it'd be of interest to some of you incase you were building new wheels or something.

As MBO says, the lighter the bike the easier it is to spin.

It all depends on what your riding style is.

I've tried a couple of different sets of alloy nipples, DT's are majorly f**ked, they bend, they're overly soft and don't hold spoke tension.

Tried some other no names and have had them for a good 2 years now, they're super hard and just as reliable as normal steel ones (or whatever they're made of).
