Whats Your Veiws On Not Eating?

Food is fuel. If you do no physical work, eat less, or nothing.

This is what I don't understand - 'low calorie' food. The whole idea of eating is to obtain energy, so why would we want low energy food? I'm tired of people making excuses for being obese and even more tired of overweight people making excuses why they shouldn't exercise. All these lame easy options they try and take, like slimfast 'shakes, 'diets' and counting calories. It's just bs.

EDIT: OH YOU HAVE A MRS I GUESS THAT'S HER IN THE AVATAR THEN MY AVATAR IS NOT MY MRS

Thats insane, just stop eating as much sugary/fatty foods, and do some excercise now and then. It's not rocket science!

A lot of people put extra weight on over the winter, I've put on 13 pounds since september, and I'm eating healthier than ever.

Your body holds on to fat when you don't eat as its unsure when it will be fed next.........so if you're friend is doing it to loose weight then its a f**king stupid way of doing so. Sure you will loose weight gradually but it is without doubt the most retarded way of doing so. There is genuinlly no good that can come from not eating.

Cutting back on excess food, being more healthy (not eating low calorie bollocks) and exercising are all very good things you can do which will all lead to a very positive way to loose weight and improve fitness.

If your friend is doing this for any other reason than for weight loss then i cannot comment, if they are mentally ill/having a rough time etc then they need some help in whatever form that may be, all of which wont be given by answers here.

I'd agree with most of that since I never look at how many calories something has, and if I do it's to choose the product that has more.

However, some people just have to put food into their mouth all the time. In such a situation you want that food to have as little "fuel" as possible. I often eat because I'm bored and for those occasions, food which has no nutritious values at all would be my choice.

Clearly not a uni student....

not eating = ££££££'s

edit: in response to above. Anorexia is very different to bulimia, (which is what your friend had), try not to confuse them they have very different treatments and causes to my knowledge.

I'm not confusing them in the least. She was diagnosed with anorexia, and when she was on the road to recovering she realised she was able to vomit the food she had eaten, causing her to not gain weight, but to lose it. It was then that she was diagnosed with Bulimia. I'm aware of the differences, and she was diagnosed with both. Also, at her peak of anorexia, her body craved food, and so she would binge, that's when she threw the food back up aswell.

I've recently cut down on the rubbish food I eat, and only stick to three main meals a day - usually. I use to snack throughout the day, and although I didn't gain much weight, I saw myself slowly getting bigger. By snacking, I meant main meals throughout the day which obviously isn't good for me (6 main meals vs. 3 - I must add that I was walking with a substantial weight on my back for hours every day and gigging most evenings which cut down how much the food could have effected me had I been sitting down and doing nothing).

I honestly think it's a stupid thing to not eat, because:

1) As mentioned before, it's fuel for your body - no fuel no go.

2) Your overall health declines at a crazy pace - one of my uni mates never has much money for food, but drinks water and milk a lot. Although it's not as good, it seems to keep him in a decent state. He's now realized he can eat bread throughout the day. Before realizing this, his health was appalling, and he couldn't concentrate in any classes, and found it hard to talk.

3) Your mental state declines at a substantial rate too - I get grumpy as f**k when I don't eat, so I can't imagine what it'd be like after a couple of weeks.

This is my opinion though, and because of the fact that I love food I couldn't imagine someone not eating. None of my family have been in the position where they haven't eaten - as far as I know. I've gone through rough patches where I haven't had much food to eat - but I always found a nutritious substitute to make sure my health didn't plummet because of it.

I think I went a bit off subject in this post, and quite possibly contradicted myself, but oh well! :P

There may be other reasons why they are not eating though.

I stopped eating about a year ago when I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. I physically couldn't eat. Anything I ate, even the slightest bit, made me feel ill. It was the easiest way to combat it, I can't feel ill if I dont eat. I lost a lot of weight (got to 7 stone then got made to eat and put on special diets ect).

Once you get into that kind of routine, its very very difficult to get back to normal, and things start to escallate. It was only because of the support the doctors, my family and friends gave me, that I started to eat again.

Maybe ask them to get checked out by a doctor, as they will be able to advise a nutritionalist who will be able to help much more.

Exactly, best way to think of this is much like a camel, its humps essentially being full of fat so it can go long periods without eating.

If you don't eat, your body doesn't burn off the calories to compensate for eating, so the whole "Oh I won't eat, I'll loose weight" isn't that simple, and in some cases can make you larger by doing so.

I'm always eating reasonably properly, but there are some times that I cannot eat anything.

Mostly when I trouble with girls/love.

I had not eaten anything for 2 days last time something happend, not because I wanted to lose weight, just really couldn't get anything down my throat.

Lost 5 kilo in those days and fainted 3 times.

Not a fun time.

Totally recovered now though :)

Just eat properly, it's not fun :P

Quote this if this thread made you hungry.

Haha.

I eat whenever I get hungry, so I don't eat at the usual times? I've never eaten breakfast, as I'm not hungry in the mornings, then if I'm busy during the day I won't eat until I get home in the evening, and then I either eat loads, or just a little bit, it's strange.

I'm hungry now though, might have some nachos. ^_^
