Rounded Wheel Bolt.

BigAl

Recommended Posts

Okay, so i got a puncture, walked my bike home and tried to get my rear wheel off.

I got the non drive side bolt out no problem, but the drive side bolt refused. All i ended up with is a rounded bolt, a stuck wheel, and a cut finger. <_<

Anyone got any ideas on how to get the bolt out? Its an iron or steel bolt in an Echo TR hub.

Need help pretty urgently:)

Thanks.

Alex

umm......

Get an angle grinder with a really thin disk, cut a slit into the nut and use a flatheard screwdriver to get it out. (Y)

I've never got that to work, you can't turn the screwdriver hard enough and it keeps jumping out of the slot because you can't cut deep enough without damaging the wheel bolt spacer washer thing.

worked for me in my old tryall hub try jamming the screw driver in the allen key bolt slits first

When you say rounded off, do you mean the allen key slot or the threads?

Sealed hubs can also be annoying, you tried tightening the non dirve side back up and then trying the drive side again?

If that isnt the case then making some sort of slot for a screwdriver/lever?

Should have been more specific, it was the bolt head that was rounded, its all sorted now. In the end i hammered it down the dropout, took the chain off, and then used all my hammering force to bash it out the dropout, took me a few minutes but i got it done:)

Thanks for all the help guys.
