Otacon
I would say what I feel about TGS, but I had better not That you used to once ride it ali ? Remember that.Same goes for Ben Travis. Bessel and all them kinda' people, they used to be full on TGS bashers, they get a sponsor or a new sponsor, go ride comps and start with the whole "TGS is shit, your not proper riders, get some liens creativity etc". The thing that pisses me off the most is.....3-4 years ago...there was none of this shit and arguing and them kind of comments on CLS and Neils vidsWhat ever floats your boat innit, f**k what anyone else thinks is shit. The king has spoken. Ali C
lol, opening up a whole new can.I don't mind the act of TGS, but its more the whole image of tight jeaned, straight haired, sometimes abusive riders and so on.PLEASE don't jump down my throat, I realize that most TGS riders are nice mild mannored people. It maybe unfortunate that from the videos I have seen and the rides I have been on with a few people (not naming anyone) that the TGS image comes across like that to some.I also realize that you get abusive people at comps, but they are caught up in the competition, not telling old people to "f**k off" because they were asked nicely to not ride on a wall next to the old persons car. billy_deacon:)
TGS is the name given to a type of riding. It was once called 'street', but after years of confusion between one type of street (24" bikes, with seats, more of a bmx style etc) someone came up with the name TGS and it stuck.'TGS' is kind of a pisstake, implying that all they do is taps gaps and sidehops. In reality there's a lot more to that type of riding. TGS is going big. Just pulling off one move (a gap or a tap etc) rather than doing lines and usually not caring about their style.A perfect example of TGS is CLS, Niel Tunnicliffe, Damon Watson. There a lot of controversy over TGS, some people think it's not how trials should rode even though TGS riders are pushing themselves and their bikes to the very maximum.A tap is there you're going to backwheel a big wall, you let the front wheel hit the wall to help you gain some hight, it's usually considered a stock only move, but you do see some mod riders doing it.TGS riders will also do big drops, gaps to front wheels, wheel swaps, stright to backwheel (without the tap) etc. Youtube Video -> ">" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">
Simpson
I love this debate, because it's so simple in my mind.Trials should be like this - VideoIf you want my opinion thats not trials, its bmx'y riding on a 24", and then compare him to an amazing bmx rider like Mark Webb...I don't think anyone can define trials, its whatever you want it to be which makes it so awsome, some people would say good brakes, no saddle - Rowan doesn't run brakes, nor does Akrigg and many "trials" bikes have started to re-incorperate a seat tube as well. I think its impossible to define what trials is, i ride esentially a street bike, DMR rims, streety frame, saddle with trials parts, (magura etc) and i try and do pretty much everything on it. Trials will be a lot better when people just see everyones points of veiw and stop being so narrow minded.
Revolver
The last video Ben Travis made sums up trials for me.As you can see, masters of TGS and pure trials have spoken, and their opinion is right: who gives a shit?

Hendrix
If TGS use to be called Street, then why not call it Urban Trials? You've got Natural Trials, so why not Urban. Just my addition to it.

JT!
It kinda pisses me off when people put down and / or have no respect for a branch of their own sport, tgs, natural, street. They're all very different to us, but it's all trials.
ben_travis
Same goes for Ben Travis. Bessel and all them kinda' people, they used to be full on TGS bashers, they get a sponsor or a new sponsor, go ride comps and start with the whole "TGS is shit, your not proper riders, get some liens creativity etc".Its people with opinions like yours that really grate on me, you have insinuated that I changed my style because I got a sponsor? Ill have you know that I was sponsored when I was a TGS basher, I rode for toxsin and i rode for adamant and I was a total basher then, a damon watson wannabe would be the best way to put it. I tried to be as go-big as CLS, tunni and damon. I actually only ride approximately 1 competition a year (fort william national) but I do ride alot of natural. Its the most fun you can have on a trials bike (in my opinion) as you can still ride TGS or you can ride with flair. I started to realise that I was bored of riding TGS and when i watched back my old videos I realised just how boring my riding (note: not style) was. I love trials more than most people, I love all aspects of trials and am actually one of few who find bmx quite boring. I decided i needed to spruce my riding up and have more fun when riding, I actually started to ride for myself and not for my sponsor and the last few videos i have made are the result of this.I have never said...."your not proper riders"....i have advised riders to attempt more than just sidehops, however i still appreciate how good some boys are on their bikes (the likes of swindlebum and others) they can go big, much bigger than I can, but i still find their videos a tad repetitive. I like to be enthralled by a video, not bored. I have a saying, that the scottish muckers and I all try and ride by. Anything you want filming you have to be able to get to from the ground. This actually brings about the whole 'lines' aspect of riding. Generally you will see this in most of my recent videos. However it is still TGS, just linked together. If i wanted to be part of the 'cool' gang (another thing your insinuating with your comment) i would ride 24 and be like danny mac. I WAS a TGS basher, but i decided it was not how I wanted to ride, i wanted to ride natural and streety lines it felt more like me. I will repeat this just one more time - I RIDE FOR ME, NOT FOR MY SPONSORS - and thats probably the reason i have the deals i do.To finish - dont go around using my name in vein like you are because your speaking utter bullshit. If you want to ride TGS then do so. If you wannabe riding bmx'y street then do so. If you want to not ride trials at all and ride road cycling naked...then do so. I wont judge you, so dont go around judging me like you are.cheers

that NBR dude
I still don't get this obsession with having to label everything. I'm not just talking trials, but everything. We seem so desperate to label each other, or fit into a certain group. Why can't what we do just be looked upon as "trials"? At the end of the day we all share the same common interest, yet as soon as someone does something different, we immediately have to label them.Lets remove the labels, the stereotypes and get on with doing what we enjoy doing, TRIALS.
