Revolver
I thought this might be a good idea, lol. This thread is for those small questions that don't need a full thread to answer them or discuss them. Here's one to start us off!My chain skips on my gears. I've got the 8sp kmc kool chain, new, on a used cassette. I've only got two gears, spaced out a bit so the chain fits. I can use the lower of the two, 16t, fine, but not the harder, 13t. Why? I suspect I might need to take a link out of the chain? It can't be that it's not bedded in, as it works in the other gear.
sstein
The 16t gear gives you more raparound meaning that it is less likely to skip.
Revolver
Thus, if I take a link out of my chain, it should increase the tension and wrap around, and stop skipping?
ZeroMatt
This thread was deffinately needed.Shifter pull/mech movement doesn't equal the distance the sprockets are spaced out properly? JonMack
No matter what I do my BB wont stop creaking. I've taken everything out about 4896058367035489 times, greased EVERYTHING, cleaned EVERYTHING, greased EVERYTHING again, and it still creaks. The only thing I've changed is crank bolts, and frame, could it just be the BB settling into the frame?

sstein
Thus, if I take a link out of my chain, it should increase the tension and wrap around, and stop skipping? That may not solve the problem. What I meant was the larger cog means it has more area to connect too, meaning that it is less likely ot slip on worn cogs, however the 13tooth cog has less raparound space. Greased frame before putting BB in and still does it, took BB out cleaned it greased it, still creaks. It feels like it's from the BB area, when I spin the BB with my hands it's smooth and so is the pedals. I'm just ignoring it for now but would like to know how to stop it! weirdoku
Mine chain line is not perfectly straight, before I changed my rear sprocket I had a straight chain line and it still creaked.

Could it be the BB cups being slightly smaller than the actualy BB area in the frame? Small enough to not notice by hand but noticeable when weight is put on the BB? Hence the creaks? Hendrix
Mine creaks when I apply any pressure on either pedal, from being at the top.I've grown to ignore it now..Mine's suppose to have new BB and newish cranks (now battered). Revolver
This thread was deffinately needed.Shifter pull/mech movement doesn't equal the distance the sprockets are spaced out properly?I've set it up so it works, the jockey wheels and the cassette sprocket are both aligned properly, it just skips. The wraparound might be why. I'll keep riding it, I'm taking that link out, so long as I can.

Reset Ti anyone? If that was a question to who wants one, I will please Does the creak do any kind of damage to the frame though? If yes I'll replace my BB as well.
