Jack Morton
It doesnt work i once tryed it. All it does it kind of polish up you're rim , You will just be wasting you're time doing it. Use a grinder
fatty r
it will work man but as said befor it will sort for polish your rim only if you use a fine file though. I would say use a harsh file or a rasp and you will be sorted.Hope this helped
JackC123
Haha, no offence mate but... use a ginder im sure your dad or a local rieder must have one? It's a stupid idea using a file.

A.Baxter
I purposfully made my grind dead with a file to run some smooth rim pads si i'm not sure it would work to be honest :\ Adam

All your doing is killing the sidewalls.REALLY LIGHT! lol yeh i know what your saying but like people grind rims really deep and doing it lighty takes a wee bit of weight off and sanding it makes it smoother than a light grind or you can make it really smooth but then theres no point in doing it, i mite try just sanding a smooth rim next time =\ mite just work the same haha

Dave!
just slam a grind on it! Filing it won't do much at all, just make it slightly rougher.Where as a grind will give the pads something to hold on to!And onza rims are pritty good for holding grinds, I've got a hog and its now had like 8-10 grinds? still works fine.So just get a grinder with a metal grinding wheel and entre the realm of "the grind"
trialschallenger
entre the realm of "the grind" and you'll never look backi used one of the dremil multi tool thingies to grind my step sons wheel earlier useless! (grinder is at work)so ill have to do it all over again.go for the grind mateand i can never remeber grinding to save wieght
Ben John-Hynes
So just get a grinder with a metal grinding cutting wheel and entre the realm of "the grind" Try and get your hands on a steel cutting wheel. Would give an amazing grind without even having to turn the grinder on
Daveee
It would make a difference depends how hard you filed it,
Muel
You can get really coarse files? That would get it deeper and space the grooves further apart.Just get a grinder though, the grind will be sharper, take a fraction of the time and probably be more uniform. toyota200x
Grinds work best, but I have used a file to ruff up a rim. I did it on a rear mod wheel and it took a fair while and my arms & hands were sore by the end. I used an edge of a file so it left grooves. I was running a rear V too and the brake worked amazing. I don’t think it was worth the time because an angle grinder works just as good.
neonneon
Go over your rim with the corner of a file, Make it as deep as possible then go over it (very lightly) with a hacksaw to make big sharp grooves. I did it on my old onza wheel, worked amazingly.
Pashley26
The file required would be of bastard design ? Edited April 7, 2009 by Pashley26
trialschallenger
The file required would be of bastard design ?would be best yesbut im sure you know someone with a grinder? or buy one from wickes' (other diy stores are available) but a grinding disc and take the grinder back and say it wasnt the right one as long as you dont damage it sorted
