JD™
I think England blows everything into massive proportions; this country's overly prejudice, and we presume that just because a young teen is walking in a hooded jumper he must have a knife in his pocket. Being female, I've constantly had it drilled into me that any man walking down the street alone is out to get me, and yes, I actually believe it. I cannot walk alone anywhere in fear of being raped or murdered, as silly as it sounds. I hate walking outside in the dark, because in the back of my mind I'll remember the scene on Crimewatch where a man was lurching in the bushes with a knife, ready to pounce on his next victim. I tend to stereotype people alot, perhaps more than I should, but I've become that way because of the media's excessive camera views on a certain man who stole a child's life, or the latest coloured man to shoot a white man in London's roughest area. I'm not a particularly racist person, but I believe this country has completely 'gone to the dogs' with the excessive use of shunning someone for not politically correctly naming a race, or making a joke about another culture. I was in a class a few weeks back, and a white boy turned to a boy of Pakistani origin and called him a "curry-muncher" of which, he was provoked to do; the white boy was suspended for 3 days, although the Pakistani boy wasn't even disciplined, despite naming the white boy a "stupid Jewish white boy." I despise this country, we're too concerned about what the foreigners think of us, we're too prejudiced and our government doesn't know how to make a proper decision.[/rant]That's as far as I read. I think you need to use some paragraphs, because I'm sure your opinion is valid but like f**k am I reading that block!

JD™
Edited.Cheers, much more inviting to read I can see where you're coming from, but I've got to agree with Circus here. This all began with stupidity, and it's being fuelled by stupidity every day. There are things like David James' recent joke that was taken the wrong way - there wasn't one single complaint against him until someone in the BBC apologised. They should have been apologising that it was a crap joke, not that it was 'politically incorrect' or whatever. That member of the BBC was just being stupid and assuming that there would be an outcry. Everyone stop being so god damn stupid. Not really aimed at anyone in this thread, just the globe as a whole. Simpson
I would say that discrimination isn't treating anyone of different colours / ages the same, in my opinion not discriminating is to not even recognise the differences that people have, and that the government by introducing all these laws to force people to be treated equally have only caused more of a divide. Greetings
genuine curiosityThis is something I've been thinking about as well. It seems that from a sensible country where people trusted each other and life was fairly easy and liberal, it's turning into Orwell's big brother concept. I can only relate these things to my personal experience from living in Poland and there are a few things I like about the UK. The educational system for those who actually care is much better, young people are given much more possibilities to develop their interests and start earning money on them. Everything else about that place makes me want to puke. I was born there and used to live in Wimbledon for many years and I'm really grateful my parents decided to move out. Thanks to that, I consider my life to be much easier and more care free than it would if we stayed. The worrying thing for the rest of Europe is that what's going on in the UK will start to spread. I consider this to be a form of progress - from treating people liberally to keeping a close eye on them in order to increase safety/tax revenue/control. They dont give a f**k about much besides what they need to do to keep the country running well.yeah technically i will be an immigrant, canadas full of them! the difference is they want to live the canadian way, laid back, fun loving and hard working. Not wanting to live their way in canada, they feel privaliged to be there, whereas here they feel as if it is a right to live here their way.................anyway, yeah i love it here................ranty rant rant Edited April 2, 2009 by Mikey C™
Milford Cubicle
What do the prisoners do all day anyway? The government should turn the prisons into basically labour camps, then the scum and villains would think twice about commiting the crimes if they thought they were going to have to work hard. I mean like sticking them on excercise bikes for 15 hours a day to generate electricity or something, or turning the prison into a call centre or something, basically making the prisons profitable instead of costly! Or playing on the weakness of the pound and getting them to make stuff that we can then export, making loads of money and boosting the economy. In london, most of the crimes committed were people from a foreign background.. or in other words, immigrants. Basically it gets on my nerves, them thinking they can get away with it and all.. If i was Prime Minister, i would do a hard-lining rule- those who are from overseas and living here, do a crime and get a warning, do it again.... deportation. it makes sense- keeps them on their toes. we've got too many thanks to tony blair.. and those claiming asylum for benefits or government support for their sole reason- no f**king way.I like what these boi's are saying. In my opinion if people are in prison they should be doing stuff to make are country money. This would pay for the cost of them being inside and then give the moeny on top back to the country to make up for whatever they did to it. With immigrants i would make it a LOT harder to get into the country, you would need to offer somthing to us and if you commited a crime or somthing you'd get deported quick sharp. I'd also change benefits, you wouldn't get money for nothing unless you had no-way of having a job. If you could have a job you would be given a crap one to motivate you to get a proper job. I know nothings as simple as that but i wish i was prime minister some things reeeeeally piss me off and could be changed.billx
F-Stop Junkie
For instance, they come here and we put up Mosques and shit to accommodate there traditions and beliefs. But if we went to there countries and COE Churches started popping up everywhere there would be outrage. And as Mike says, every time you say something to a colored person it's racism. But if you say something to a white person then it's fair game.Umm, the missionaries? I think they went round the world actually trying to convert the local people! That's worse than just putting up religious buildings because there's a community in place who want it...And you can say things to ~urgh~ a coloured person, just nothing that denigrates them as a race. This may include - but is not limited to - calling someone with a turban as 'towel head'. You can say many things to them, as they can to a white person, which are not racist. To live in a multi-cultural society where you sometimes have to be a bit mindful of what you say is surely better than large scale, institutionalised racism? Replace 'coloured person' with trials rider, and surely you can see the situation a little better? Wouldn't you rather have a world where people accept trials riders and not chase them away or complain about them? Do you think people would be more tolerant of trials riders if they knew more about us?
The Stig
I am British and i have no problem with socialising with ethnic minorities, but what really gets my goat is when illegal immigrants come over here in order to sponge of mine, yours, your parents, grandparent hard earned taxes in order to try and bring their family here and have a better life. Don't get me wrong i am all game for equality and fairness however our country has done it's time fought it's cornerin order to be where we are now, and if they want to attend our life style and our way of life they should conform to our way like we do. Whenever i go abroad i have respect for their culture and do not demand they cook me a full english and put the rugby on. I have alot to say on the matter but it does fustrate me, and it does come out wrong sometimes so i will leave it there Tom

Fish-Finger-er
Newsflash: OBM stalks forum females Im sure if we put Bernard Manning, Roy Chubby Brown and Al Murray in charge of the major political parties, along with every middle aged taxi driver and hairdresser as MP's, everything would all run fine. till then, were knackered. F-Stop Junkie
Im sure if we put Bernard Manning, Roy Chubby Brown and Al Murray in charge of the major political parties...Ummm, you do know the pub landlord is just a character Al Murray does? When he talks like that, he's not actually stating opinions, but making fun of those who do...Bernard Manning (may he rest in the firey pits of damnation, with a scrotum full of wasps) and Roy Chubby Brown however, are the most pugnacious, repulsive, morally f**ked 'comedians' out there. There is no justification for their continued careers or reputation, and the world would be a wonderfully lovely place if people who like those comedians died. Oh, and those who don't get the irony of the Pub Landlord, get rid of them too.
Mark W
Wait, wait, wait... Are you suggesting that Al Murray's "Pub Landlord" character is making fun of people like that?
