bikeperson45
Hello, after screwing up my hub, I need a new hub. My old one was a Pro II (an older one I think) for the rear wheelI don't relly want to spend too much, but am willing to spend enough to get a long lasting/ strong one.My LBS said they can get a Hope Bulb for around £70, where as a new Pro II would be aroung £130 From looking around quickly heard Bulbs are more heavy duty and have more engagements. Is this true? Also, I would rather have gear and the Bulb is 5 speed I thinkThanks
ZeroMatt
You'd be much better off with a pro2 really.
forteh
A bulb is little more than a heavy duty hope xc, not intended for the punishment a proIIt will put up with. If your old hub was the trials version then it would be worth sending it back to hope, I would be suprised if they cant ressurect it
1337 Trials
I did hear of my mate who works in the lbs that hope products have a life time warrenty
sstein
The hope bulb is basically the old version of the pro 2. What you want is the pro 2 trials, which will be stronger than both of them.
bikeperson45
I was offered to send it back to Hope. The teeth where it meets the freehub body are screwed. I think it was summin like thatI'll have a look around for a cheaper Pro IICould I run gears normally with a Pro II, depends on the freewheel? Thanks for replys
Aaron.Tottman
i used a bulb for over two years and it worked sh*t-hot..................but...........the rachet ring went like 7 time over that period and snapped the axle once. made me quike scetchy about doing big peddle kicks!!!!!even today!!when it comes to the garrenty it don't include trials use. they'll only replace wear and tear for free. bulbs only 3 paw? pro2 4paw?let alone all the conections are REALLY beefy compared toa bulb. stronger springs! fatter axle.spend the money ona pro2 you won't be dissapointed!!!!!!EDIT:and yes you can run gears but you can only fix 6. Dan6061
What's the actual problem with your hub? and is it a ProII Trials, or just the 'normal' XC one?
N.Wood
If your ratchets f**ked you're gonna need to de-build the wheel anyway. If you send the whole wheel all they'll do is swap the old internals into a new shell and strap it to your wheel and send it back. De-build your wheel, send your hub and re-build your wheel when they send you a new one.It cost me less than a fiver to send a hub to the US, so sending a hub to Yorkshire won't be much at all. bikeperson45
I think it's the non-trials one, never thought of just sending the hub...Oh yeah, it's the rachets that are messed upThanks Edited April 1, 2009 by bikeperson45

bikeperson45
One engagemnet? I'm confusedWhy's there barely any disc ones? Oh wait, it's for the rear, less rear disc users? Edited April 2, 2009 by bikeperson45
psycholist
No freewheel at all in the hub - when you roll forward it drives the chain forward and the freewheel is fitted to the cranks (Or not at all for the fixie road cycling types)... cai
Freewheels have the ability to well 'freewheel' - meaning you can roll along and keep your cranks stationary. These freewheels then engage or 'pick up' when you pedal (better quality freewhells and freehubs usually have more engagements).Fixed sprockets/cogs are constantly fixed, so they are always engaged. If you have a freewheel on the cranks then you should run a fixed cog on the rear - likewise if you have a freehub then you should be running a fixed cog up front. Understand??
bikeperson45
Yeah, thanks a lot, got it now Now just to find a decent hub
cai
a decent hubEither a Hope ProII, or a Chris King classic/ISO ..they are like the only real options when it comes to 135mm trials freehubs.
bikeperson45
Sorry, another question...Is there an advantage of getting Hope Pro " trials edition over the standard one? Thanks
Ali C
yeah, they have a steel freehub body (where the cogs go) and stronger internals and axle.
