Luke_zoo
Hi all I'm wanting to know what is the best way for me to improve I know i can do that by riding but I have a running mehcine and some weights but I'm going to buy a pull up bar as well...If I did 50 pull ups 2x a day 5days a week, How long would it take my mussels to get stronger and be able to pull up better on my zoo ?Any other exercise would be good I know there is press ups, running, jogging ect..Any help ? Muel
Doing weights and getting big won't help much with trials, because they tend to build the slow twitch muscle fibres, who need more of the fast twitch ones that give you explosive power.Explosive power mostly comes from your legs IMO, so jumping squats should be useful.Any aerobic stuff will help in comps though because you won't get tired as quickly, but you'll still have problems like forearm, hand and finger cramp.Just ride your bike as often as you can, that way you're training to ride your bike better at the same time as working out. forteh
Trials is initially mainly about technique rather than brute strength, learn to get the basics sorted, then start getting the power on and you will go bigger Only riding trials will condition the muscles that it uses, unless you specifically target the right muscle groups all you will be doing is adding muscle bulk in the wrong places. If youre struggling with technique then find some local riders and learn from them, it really is the best way to progress.edit: damn you muel!!! If you can do 50 pull ups, your weight power ratio must be very high! Meaning you shouldn't have problems pulling your zoo on the back wheel! How long have you been riding? Might just be down to technique! But as Muel says work your legs as well, and remember your arms not just made up of biceps which people seem to think, in-fact its one of the smallest upper arm muscles! Muel
Why do you need a bike that light though, bit weak and feeble these days? I can't be arsed making mine lighter now, it's just over 10 I think, so I really can't be bothered spending any more on it.

forteh
Look at the setup of the bike then, mods are even easier to hold on the back wheel than stocks

Lukefrom a body building point of view that wont work, you need to train on max 4 maybe at a push 5 times a week, and its got a lot to do with your diet protien shakes and a high protien diet should help you grow muscle.but to be totally honest(correct me if im wrong) but trials is all about technique yeh a bit of muscle helps you throw the bike around easier but its mainly techniqueand if you over train you end up not getting any bigger you need complete rest days,to help your muscles grow i wont go to far into it.look it up on google Edited March 27, 2009 by trialschallenger
3dd
I know that, but too buils up my arms would that make it better for doing sidehops ?What is your side at the moment? I ve been riding for 2 years now on stock. Max could do is 80cm, just a week ago a sort of nailed a good technic for side's so i go 105cm now, and still going higher every week.As people here say, ride as much as you can and you will go higher! Sometimes i tend to ride solo, so i can push my self harder! Thanks Ed

You could try working your back by doing wide grip pull ups.I worked out solidly for 2 years and went from pushing 30 kg on my legs to over 260 kg and upto 120kg with my back. But i am still not great at trials. It is most definately technique that you should work on. Getting big muscles actually will start to hinder you at some stage. Work on your technique and keep riding. You will get better.
kyeo00
I agree with most of the people on here!Trials is all about technique not about how 'hard' you are.If you look at some people's videos they're complete ''wuffers'', but they can still do some sick riding.Just rideing your bike will be good enought But, if you really feel like you need to do something- the legs- and the shoulders.Push up bar's a good idea. And maybe leg work at the gym?..Orr... Sprinting? Hope i helped.mat.
Ali C
power is nothing without control!Leave the weights alone for now, they wont do ANYTHING to help you gain rear wheel control. The best thing you can do is practice. Ride as much as you can, the more you ride the better you will become.Going running is good though, that will help keep your legs springy and will help you ride for longer. How old are you BTW? Jonezy
ive only been biking for a week and to be honest just stick to it, you'll get much better! My hops are getting good so that is a good sign!! also side-hopping just needs practice and balance, not really muscle.Hope this helps! Aaron.Tottman
keep riding.try and think of ways to weighing your bike down.when i was using my t-rex i used some forks that i got off an x-rated bike from halfords (they were like 3.5kg) and an old crappy dics wheel that i found (bout1.8kg)rode them for bout 2 months then got a pair of urbans(echo) and a hope xc on d521(nocking off bout 4kg) and everything was so much easier.all this hype bout lighter parts ain't sh*t if you ain't got the tech' to use it!!!!just my opinion.Riding other bikes help. BMX cross training. (think Ali C does the same.) Edited March 27, 2009 by Aaron.gloster
