Questions Regarding Frame Geo And Parts Compatabillity

Right, so I've decided to get a new frame after finding a crack in my monty 221PR.

I have never bought a standalone frame, so I have alot of questions.

I mainly ride street, so I'm going for a stronger deng frame this time. I very much enjoyed the geo of my monty, so I want to something as close to my monty geo as possible.

The czar mod frame seems to be the most similiar to the monty geo:

monty:

Wheelbase: 1000mm

Chainstay Length: 362mm

BB Rise: 50mm

Head Angle: 72 degrees

Centre of BB shell to top centre of head tube: 605mm (23.75")

czar:

Wheelbase: Short 1005mm, Long 1025mm

Chainstay Length: 362mm

BB Rise: 50mm

Head Angle: 71.5 degrees

Centre of BB shell to top centre of head tube: 595mm (23.5")

Pretty reasonable price at tartybikes aswell.

I'm wondering how the slight differences in geo will affect the feeling of the bike?

I'm a big fan of bunnyhops so I want to keep the front end easy to pull up.

Will the difference in wheelbase and headangle make a big difference? If so, is there any way to compliment this?

I also want to get a new stem, which one do you prefer to simulate the monty geo? I looked at the trialtech sport forged stem, but all the dimensions are too difficult for me to understand :P

Another point:

Being the poor b*****d I am, all the parts on my monty are original and never replaced. Will the parts be compatable with the czar frame?

I'm mainly worried about the BB, headset/fork and wheels. I know monty uses a different wheel spacing, so I'm afraid that won't work out =/

I would appreciate it if someone could clear this up for me.

Thanks in advance

Echo Lite short is what I'd recommend.

Basically you'll find the Czar a bit shorter than the Monty due to the slacker head tube angle.

This should make bunnyhops easier.

Hmm even shorter, thought that the longer wheelbase would compliment the slack head angle...

I´ve had a look at the echo lite, but they don´t sell it in a short version in all the shops i´ve checked, and I prefer the look of the czar aswell to be honest

Is there any way to resolve the shorter feeling on it?

I have no experience in all of this, so excuse the stupid questions.

EDIT

Ok found another option

http://www.trialsolution.be/product_info.p...products_id=120

Very tempting since it's very cheap and I could even pick it up.

ZHI-ZM2

Wheelbase: 1005

Chainstay: 353

Head angle:72

only difference are the chainstays here.. but it's quite a big difference.

How would that effect the feeling of the bike?

Centre of BB shell to top centre of head tube: 605mm (23.75")

That's what you should look at, it'll tell you how long the bike will feel regardless the head tube angle or wheelbase.

Can't help with the 350mm chainstays though, never rode such short ones.

GU LE perhaps?

I love short chainstays, usually have them between 350 and 355, and I love how easily the bike just sits on the back wheel. I'd say go for the Zhi!

Hmm but how does this effect the feeling on the front end, must be harder to pull it up right?

If you can find a Z3, they are based on Monty geo. Just would have to run a rear maggie instead of a disc.

I´ve noticed that too, but I got a very good offer for a zm2, so I´m still wondering how that will ride compared to the monty.

Thanks anyway :)

go for something different higher bb hight longer reach you will find it sits on the back wheel nicely

just dont get on 08 tp ;)

I've already stated that I want something similiar to the monty, and still wondering if the zhi zm2 is anything like it..

I have a ZM2 and its great, short chainstays are great, although im not sure how reliable those measurements are.

They ride reall nicely and are easy on the back wheel and pretty good to front too.

I would go for it, they are also a hell of a lot stronger then a monty.

Right, I´m ordering an echo lite frame as suggested. It´s the 07 version though, would have rather had the 08 but that one is too expensive.

The geo is exactly the same as the monty, but it has 60mm bb rise instead of 50. How much would this influence the abillity to lift up the front?

Could I "undo" this change by running a spacer on under the stem?

Thanks.

Why would you want to combat the higher BB? I find the higher bb the better it rides.

I'm a bunnyhop lover, and I'm afraid that the higher BB will make it more difficult to bunnyhop.

I guess I'm a little paranoid for the change in frame geo >_<

Riding has been going very well lately and I'm afraid that I will lose my feeling for some moves when I change my current geo from the monty.

  • 1 month later...

Right I´ve got my echo lite frame for a while, selling my monty pr tomorrow so it´s time for some new parts =]

Already decided on everything except the wheelset.

I have to decide between a try-all wheelset:

http://www.rideactive.com/shop/product_inf...products_id=344

or an echo wheelset:

http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?pr...;category_id=61

+

http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?pr...;category_id=61

Theyre the same price.

What would you recon I should do?

The try-all is probably lighter, but I don't know how long they would last.

Opinions?
