JonMack
I'm just about to get a bike which has a bit higher bb than my last one, and I've realised that the Monty 221 Ti stem is quite low and short compared to more modern stems.I'm not really a TGS rider, or a major comp rider, I'm just a general trials rider. The stems I've been comparing are the Trialtech Sport Forged, Viz Welded 150x30 and 160x25, and the 221 Kamel 165x30. There's quite a big difference in price, but can anyone gimme any suggestions as to what would generally be considered a normal/ideal stem.Cheers,Jon
Muel
Use the TI Jon with a decent amount of stacks under it.
Captain Scarlet
I thought the Monty TI one had a nice bit of rise?Just keep with that, handlebar angle itself makes a massive difference too of course.
JonMack
Was thinking I could stick with the Ti stem and maybe whack 10mm of stackers under to bring it up to a similar height to the Viz stem? Surely that would do pretty much the same job?
Ross Gardner
The Viz Stem has the same geo as the Onza T-Master Stem i believe, so that might be another one to think about. I think that sort of geometry will be perfect for +60 as i've ridden GU's with Viz Stems and it felt really nice!
JonMack
Depends which Viz stem, I was looking at the Viz welded rather than the forged.
Ryan.
I had the viz stem on my old A3 and it was a pretty decent stem But then i changed to the Ti and it was beastly. Although saying that i've got a tms on atm and can't fault it.
JonMack
I just find I have a massive problem lifting the front for bunnyhops and manuals, it pops up easily with a kick, but just pulling the front up it doesn't seem to move, is there much I can do about that? Muel
Try tipping the bars back, it should make it easier if you want to do those wierd bunnyhoppy uppy things, I always preffered to pedal aswell though, I found it easier to compress. Simpson
I cant fault my trial-tech, you brought my Ti stem because i had brought the trial-tech and far prefered it, for us "tallish" riders it really stood the bars up and make it far more "hoppy", also saved my thighs from bruising like peaches also same geo as the t-master stem though? But the day i run one of those is the day i die.

Ryan.
Get a tms jon, sounds like it would solve everything.
JonMack
Tarty only have the 170 x 35° in stock, which would be crazy high!
J Trials 31
I got a V!Z high rise and it's really nice, but I thought that the TI stems were really nice? Sort of like he said, what's good for being able to pull up more. Manuals, bunnyhops, and then general trials riding.
Ryan.
I'm not entirely sure what i have on my meta, If you look in bike pics jon you'll see what i mean...It's is very high, but with my bars it rides f**king sweet, Bunny hops like a monster! Revolver
I think for an easy to manual/bunnyhop bike, you need quite a short, high rise setup. That's always worked for me. I can bunnyhop my bike with the bars pointed forwards, but I've got them pointed a bit further back, and it feels like my ciguena now
AdamR28
Tarty only have the 170 x 35° in stock, which would be crazy high! Was awesome on both my DOB and Hoesel, even with 15mm of spacers and high rise bars!
Muel
Have you still got the Hoesel Adam?Thought about trying a PR with a few stacks Jon? I'd go for one of the Viz stems though, they look noice.

Dave Anscombe
Keep the ti bar and stem set up....10 mm of spacers under the stem ...the try all mod stem would be a good choice on a 60=+ bb mod.....im running one on the xtp2 witch has a +65 bb

Greetings
I'd recommend the lower and shorter Echo SL mod stem. Forgot the geometry but it's one of the few stems I've tried on a mod and thought "this is just perfect". In most circumstances they were either too short or had too much rise.edit: 175x30 Edited March 26, 2009 by Inur
eskimo
Jon stick some spacers under the stem if you have steerer left, then try my Viz High Rise It's good when your used to it, taps and front wheel control seem sketchy at times but when your dialled in with the bike it's all good. Running a harder tyre helps a shed load as well.
