Revolver
15 or 14 I think. On the rear.If you use the same, it will feel a little weak on 24"s. Edited March 23, 2009 by Bruce Lee
monkeyseemonkeydo
18/14 is out as close as you'll get for 24". I run 18/13 on my Inspired and got used to quick enough.
ding_dong
so when you say "as close as you will get" do you mean it will be slightly slacker or tighter on a 14t?
Revolver
You're running 18:16, which is 1.12518:14 is 1.285so it will be a little harder.
monkeyseemonkeydo
Slightly harder. Do it with 'gear inches': (18/16)*26" = 29.25. (18/13)*24" = 33.23.(18/14)*24" = 30.86.(18/15)*24" = 28.80.Mr Lee: That doesn't take wheel size into account.
ding_dong
cheers dude, i can live with it a little stiffer, i ran 18 15 for a while on my stock and quite liked it lol. Edited March 23, 2009 by ding_dong
Revolver
Mr Lee: That doesn't take wheel size into account. I didn't know how to work that out.
ding_dong
what tyres you running up front guys?
NVWOCI WVS
I found 22:16 the perfect ratio for 24" I also found Tioga Comp-X to be amazing tyres, especially on the front.
Revolver
I use a balding schwalbe tabletop on the front. It needs replacing, there's a hole in the sidewall.I normally use 22:17, but I can use 22:16. I've got gears, see
monkeyseemonkeydo
I found 22:16 the perfect ratio for 24"That's pretty much the same as 18:13 and I agree that it's my gear of choice too.I'm running DMR Moto RT's- 2.2" front and 2.4" rear and get on fine with them. Not great for puncture protection but run a little more pressure and they're good tyres.
Brian Bleech
Yeah 22:16 is a good gear. I am running a 2.4 Maxxis Holyroller on the back and a Schwalbe Tabletop up front. Works well for me
stoozie
I use 22:18. Get on with it rather well. What would the rear sproket tooth need to be if I was running 18 up front? And as for tyres, I'm using a DMR Moto Digger 2.2 on the front, and a 2.5 Kenda Blue Groove at the rear. spaceman
I run 18:14, and Holy Roller 2.4 for both front and rear.
Matthew62
I use 18:14 on my 24'' and i find that a nice compromise. I started with 18:15 and it was just far too easy. WIth 18:14 you can still get some ''ok'' speed for park flowing lines but its also not hellish for slower more traditional trials moves. It is heavyish but very usable and you will adapt in no time.I use a kenda blue groove on the back of my bike and its great for puncture resitance - not sooo great for rolling profile. Got a dmr moto digger on the fr4ont which isbetter for rolling but fairly awful for getting punctures. I'd be inerested in trying out holy rollers when my tyres die out... Ross McArthur
I run a Tioga slick jobbie on the front, cant remember what its called but it feels as stiff as a mating stalion.I used to run a 2.5 maxxis high roller on the rear but have now went for a DMR Motto RT and it rolls so much quicker. Feels solid enough too.I used to run a 22 17 ratio but now have opted for a 22 19 as it suits what im riding more at the moment.Vid soon. Luke Rainbird
Running 18:14 on the Inspired. I have the option of a 15 and a 13 if needs be for anything much, though I tend not to use them as 18:14 seems to be a pretty sweet all rounderTyre-wise, Moto Diggers F&R, 2.35" or something, never got a puncture in them on this bike and only ever got one when I ran them before
ding_dong
i orderd my stuff this morning and i have gone for 18:14 and a 2.35 dmr moto digger on the front, and i got some echo pads...these any good? i just like the colour they matched my frame :$
monkeyseemonkeydo
i just like the colour they matched my frame :$As good a reason as any
ding_dong
that doesn't help lol, they any good or not? Edited March 24, 2009 by ding_dong
John Shrewsbury
18t front, 14t rear, works really well.
Revolver
What rear tyres do people reccomend for a 24"?I've got a balding maxxis swampthing at the moment. I was looking at a high roller, but I can only find it in 2.7. I wanted something more like 2.5, but if people like it, I'll buy it.
zoster
i tried on the rear: maxxis holy roller, kenda k-rad and dmr moto digger. the last one is by far the best
Revolver
I used to have a digger, it rolls well but not vastly better than my swampthing. The sidewalls are floppy and horrid, and its less grippy. It's also less puncture proof.
