Clawz114
Hi peopleAnyone running tubeless here? (on their trials bike obviously)This is what Stans sealant can do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sjvJXJWtAAI recently converted my real wheel to tubeless Ghetto style. For those who dont know how, this is how it works...Stretch a 20" innertube over the rim, put the valve through the valve hole on the rim and find the seam directly opposite the valve. This seam should run all around the outside of the tube. You will need to cut along this seam until you have created what looks like a belt with the 2 ends joined. Wipe this over with some soapy water to get rid of all the chalky stuff thats inside. Then fold the innertube over the edges of your rim, so it looks like an extra extra wide rimtape that overhangs at each side. Then you will need to mount half of your tye making sure the beading sits ontop of the innertube. You then add the sealant (i used stans sealant) then mount the second bead. When you have mounted both beadings you should have the cut up innertube sticking out of each side of the wheel (stuck inbetween the rim and the tyre) This will act as the seal once you have inflated the tyre. Then inflate the tyre with an air compressor. If you try and use a hand pump or a track pump it will be extremely hard work. You need to inflate it fast enough for the beading to pop against the rim. Air will be leaking out the edges while you try and inflate it, so dont think its not working. Once the beading seats properly, it wont leak. Inflate to about 50 psi and hold the wheel upright and wait a few seconds for the sealant to get to the bottom of the tyre, then shake the wheel in a motion which will make the liquid splash against the sidewalls of the tyre, turn the wheel while you do this and spend about 45 seconds to do a whole rotation. After you have done that, lay it down on its side and wipe around the tyre with soapy water and look for bubbles appearing where the rim and the tyre meet. If you see bubbles it means there is tiny holes that need sealing. While you are looking for bubbles, bear in mind that the side pointing downwards is sealing up these tiny holes. After about a minute, repeat the shaking process and put the wheel on its side again on the opposite side and check for bubbles. Keep doing this until no more bubbles appear. This means the tiny holes have been sealed. Put it in your bike and go ride. Here is a good tutorial on how to do Ghetto tubeless...Part 1: Part 2: Im currently running at around 30psi in my rear and its perfectly fine except very very occasionally it leaks a tiny bit of air when i do twisting moves where the back tyre doesnt leave the floor. For example static rear wheel 180's spins sometimes cause a tiny bit of air to leak along with a small spray of sealant. Apart from that its perfect. I can live with a bit of leaking everynow and then, its not a noticable amount and now i can do gaps as big as i want without having to worry about pinch punctures Anyone else tried this? running it? Ali C
I tried this about 3 years ago, it works, but spits latex out when you rim out, and I am not prepared to run 30psi, I am normally on
Dan S
why not to put sealant in a tube?
monkeyseemonkeydo
why not to put sealant in a tube?Extra rotational mass? I've never run any kind of 'slime' or sealant but then I also don't tend to get too many punctures either.
guuuuuuuuu leeeeeeeee
no point in tubless tyres for trials if your whipping out alot land sidey moulding your tyres into all sorta shapes you'll just get face face full of white stuff

Captain Scarlet
Absolutely nothing wrong with my tubes.Got a standard one in the front (lets face it, its hardly a job changing a front innertube), and got a Kenda DH 19" tube on the rear (which has had one puncture in the year I've had it). Clawz114
why not to put sealant in a tube?Because this seals 1/4 inch punctures. Slime and others only seal 1/8th i believe.
steve@banbury-trials
im running tubeless on my 24",but run 60psi in the rear and 30 up front.i've had no problems at all, ,the bike feels noticeably lighter and have had no punctures since fitted
aener
Because this seals 1/4 inch punctures. Slime and others only seal 1/8th i believe.Yep - 'cause you get punctures bigger than an 1/8th all the time
Clawz114
Yep - 'cause you get punctures bigger than an 1/8th all the timeFunny you should say that...I got a nail in my rear tyre today and it was over 1/8th of an inch. I actually brought it home to measure how wide it was
JT!
How can this be lighter though, you still have half an innertube in there and the sealant.
onzatrip
im running tubeless on my 24",but run 60psi in the rear and 30 up front.i've had no problems at all, ,the bike feels noticeably lighter and have had no punctures since fitted no it dont steve lol your bike is to heavy lol no you can feel the difference as i did wen i rode steves just the pressures he was running was crazy
Adrian
How can this be lighter though, you still have half an innertube in there and the sealant.cus the half of the tube your using is alot smaller then a 26" and you dont have to run heavy duty tubes.... or tyresbut other then that, appart from the novelty, its kinda pointless, just put that stans sealent stuff in ur inner tube, like you do with slime
