scottcj9
Hi guys, once again I have snapped my chain this is the second in the last 6 months. I have been using a shadow conspiracy bmx half link chain, it is really good but keeps snapping.I was wondering what chains you use and if you have had any trouble with them. Thanks Scott

scottcj9
Sorry i meant that the chain when it works is really good, but now they just keep snapping. Why are half link chains prone to snapping a lot of people dont have any trouble with them? Rusevelt
Wipperman chain. its expensive and weighs a ton, but its has incredible tensile strength. checkout chain reaction cycles.
scottcj9
I need a reasonably heavy duty chain that can stand a lot of pressure as I am not a very soft rider on my bike. What about chains like the KMC collapse?
psycholist
The two 90 degree bends on the side plates of half link chains means there's bending stress as well as tensile stress in the chain as it is used. This leads to much earlier failures than with normal chains because the total stress is higher. I replaced the KMC Kool chain I've been running on my bike since the start of 2008 last night. It was stretched, but never snapped on me. I used to snap at least a chain a year while using an 8 speed setup.
sstein
Halfords.+ 1 I used a Taya chrome bmx chain (£6.99 from halfords) for 6 months with no problem, lasted three hubs actually. The only reason I changed in the end was a leak in my garage caused the chain to get some surface rust so I thought I might as well change it, just fitted a new one of them! James Quigley
I've always thought of chains as a relatively inexpensive item and when you rely on them a lot in Trials you want a decent one.Solution: KMC kool chain, buy a new one every other month.I go through about 3-4 chains for every set of magura pads. cultiv8ed ::Chris::
Think i might try a trial tech chain next just a tad lighter. See how it goes. Am not heavy so not as much chance in it snapping.
