Chains

Hi guys, once again I have snapped my chain this is the second in the last 6 months. I have been using a shadow conspiracy bmx half link chain, it is really good but keeps snapping.

I was wondering what chains you use and if you have had any trouble with them.

Thanks Scott

trial-tech lite or a kmc kool

been using a trial-tech for about 3 months now (a long time for a chain to last for me)

had kmc kool on my old bike never had any problems with it - it lasted for 7 months before a link went, took out the damaged one shortened it a bit and it went for another 4 months. best chain i ever had

The two 90 degree bends on the side plates of half link chains means there's bending stress as well as tensile stress in the chain as it is used. This leads to much earlier failures than with normal chains because the total stress is higher.

I replaced the KMC Kool chain I've been running on my bike since the start of 2008 last night. It was stretched, but never snapped on me. I used to snap at least a chain a year while using an 8 speed setup.

Halfords.

+ 1

I used a Taya chrome bmx chain (£6.99 from halfords) for 6 months with no problem, lasted three hubs actually. The only reason I changed in the end was a leak in my garage caused the chain to get some surface rust so I thought I might as well change it, just fitted a new one of them!
