Nick Manning
I've been having problems with my Tensile offset mounts, just wandering if anyone else has had any problems with them? The problem I a having, is that when I tighten the clamp bolts up, the two mounts end up touching. This as I know shouldn't be a problem, but when I'm riding my brake cylinder will slowly move and start angling its way up. My brake pad will be set up so the pad hits the rim, when the brake cylinder moves the pad is then hitting the tyre. This is getting frustrating as I can't understand why it would this. I bought a brnad new set of Tensile mounts but they still do it, so I'm stumped.Anyone got any clues?
walker
Seems strange, are they put together correctly ie. not using two bottom ones and two top ones together (although i dont think you'd do something like that ). is the plastic clip thing inside ok? Nick Manning
Everything is being used correctly, both mounts have 1 top and 1 bottom and have the two plastic clips in. I was thinking about trying to pack it out a tiny bit, so that the bolts could tighten a bit more, but even if that worked it's not something that should need to be done. Bigman
I am not sure what the tensile mounts are like, but i had the same problem with my CNC echo clamps, what i ended up doing was filing the little tabs off so that they would clamp together further, if the tensile clamps do not have little tabs i would possibly suggest filing say 1mm off either the lower or upper mount so that they can clamp together better.Just another option.....Adam
Nick Manning
Hey Adam, they do have tabs, not very deep one's, bout 1/2mm. I'l give that ago. But that is all I need is to just be able to get the bolts to tighten just that bit more.Cheers Adam
sstein
I had the same problem when I used them. The problem is that they are stiffer than normal maggy mounts, so even though the tab is the same as the maggy one it takes more force to fully clamp it, the problem with this is that this extra force will strip your threads. You can file the tabs a bit, but what I found works amazingly is putting another strip of plastic under the normal adjustment ring. I did this and have not had any problems since.

Though I'm going to get a set of Phatworks cnc backings which should allow me to use standard magura mounts, so hopefully my problem therefore cease. Ross McArthur
Nick, I had the same problem with the two pairs I had.I had to file the tabs down a bit. Make sure if you do this to file it as square as possible, other wise the pad will sit squint. The tensile mounts are a great idea, just not very well thought out. psycholist
Thats what i was thinking, however my bolts wont go any tighter and the mounts are touching, so the only way to get them to tighten more would be to put a strip under the plastic ring. This is probably a long shot but check that the brake bolts aren't bottoming in the brake mount hole. If they're hitting the bottom of the hole the bolt will feel tight, but won't put decent clamping force on the brake.
sstein
You don't want them tighter as you will strip the threads, that is why I said to use the extra bit of plastic, however filing it down doesn't sound like tooo bad an idea, just clamp it in a vice, put a file flat over both sides and it will file evenly and flat! Nick Manning
Thanks for all the advice guy's. Im gonna be using the phat works backings now, so hopefully wont need to use the tensile mounts. If I do then I'l file those tabs down and see how it works.CheersEveryone

weirdoku
My Zhi mounts has that problem, I wrapped a few layers of insulation tape round the cylinders, beneath the washers and it's all good!
