I mean, they aren't exactly a "ooo i'll have one of those because they're cheap" item like the frame was.

Even if they get down to £500, it's still £500. Hard to explain.

no its not cos there LOOSING money.

its better to just keep it in stock.

Not necessarily, it's sometimes good to get rid of stock before it becomes outdated and then you can't sell it at all or would have to sell it at a significantly lower price, and also to keep cashflow going. People that are going to spend £1500 on a bike want the latest geo and improvements. I've no idea what the profit margains are like on these bikes but i'd imagine they won't be losing much, if anything. Also this countdown sale works as a bit of a loss leader, people might go on the site just to check it out (like I did) then get drawn into buying other stuff.

In the BMX world, markup on completes is reasonably high. Judging from the markup on the few trials products I know the trade prices of, I'm guessing the price could go down quite a bit before they stand to loose money. Similarly, some money is better than no money, and a complete bike not taking up room in storage means you've got room for a new complete bike, so it makes sense whichever way you cut it.

Not necessarily.

Think of it this way, to own a bike means they're, say, -£600

If they sell it for the proper price, they're +£1000. So, if they sell it, even for £600, then they're not profiting, but they're not losing any money. Owning stock is the loss, selling it is the profit.

I mean if they sell if for less than trade price..

Its business sence, it may not seem it, but the longer they keep it, the less and less its going to be worth, till its worth nothing. And all that while your keeping an item which is depreciating in value and taking up storage room. So instead you sell it at a bit of a loss, (maybe slap yourselves on the wrist that you got to much stock) although I doubt that they are that bothered and get free advertisment from it.
