sstein
Just so you know: if you ever want to get validated; use punctuation correctly and start your sentences (and for that matter proper nouns) with capital letters!
middleageman
Matt had 2 Zoots for sale, I bought the other one! Also my 1st Trials bike, I just need some brakes. Was yours a complete bike? Have you ridden Trials before? He was sound with me as well. Post up a bike piccy (in your topic), let's have a look!Good luck on the forum, as sstein said, use capital's where needed, watch your spelling, ask well worded questions and give friendly replies and you may get validated! Also, never ask about getting validated. Read the guidelines and wiki on the top tool bar, also the sticky, 'Mike's guide to validation'Most forum members will gladly answer any questions you may have. Have fun learning! middleageman. lachojski
Thats the one i wanted!lol.Seen yours on here and on ebay and made contact but he had loads of interest.Didn't you buy it with breaks?I bought mine as full bike (including breaks).I had a monty when i was about 14-15 but i dent last long at it.I went out on the zoot tonight to do a bit,and the bike felt good.Really looking forward to getting stuck in and going out every night to learn more.My mate is getting his bike sorted and will be going riding with him, apparently he is really good.cheers Edited March 5, 2009 by lachojski
middleageman
Hey lachojski! Cheers for your reply man. I didn't realise Matt had another Zoot for sale until I'd bought mine. Then I was thinking "was the other one better?" What brakes did you go for?I haven't seen pics of yours, because the sale was closed on this forum. Post some up man!Did you get the single speed kit? I wanted gears for now to get me around. As stated before, sound fella to deal with. You've already made more progress than me. At least you can stop yourself! middleageman. middleageman
Brakes? Who needs them Certainly not me, after showing 'the wife' that video, I think the ball and chain will take care of that! She reckons I've already collected one too many head injury cards as it is. Cheers for the clip man. Astounding.middleageman.

Matt Vandart
No offence meant to Dr Doom or Chris Akrigg, as it is great riding, I'm more impressed with the outside video, but it's hardly "Trials" is it?Quite a bit of hype over this so called brakeless trials, but BMX has been doing shit like this for years, many of the kids in swansea ride brakeless and have been doing comparable stuff for years, in fact I havn't had a working brake on my BMX since 2002 but it hasn't stopped me riding it.When someone completes a natural section without any dabs, without brakes, then I will be impressed, and will admit to it being brakeless trials not "brakeless like BMX with big wheels"Who cares what I think anyway.Matt

''the faster you ride the less time you have to f**k up!''the hole brakeless theary is a level of crosstraining, ''if it ain't there then you can't rely onit, you get used to not having it there, so when you do have it back, your a better rider from the experience.'' same with chainless riding.personaly i'd rather have no brakes than just the one.*When someone completes a natural section without any dabs, without brakes, then I will be impressed,*isn't that what he doesin brakeless 2. ok not competition but a natural line non the less! can't wait to see rowan's brakeless vid if he does one. complete opposite style to akrigg. slower more fluid riding.that's my little rant for the day. Matt Vandart
I'm sorry, I don't agree, if that was the case then riding a half pipe on a BMX would be "Trials". Riding a bike over an obstacle, is not a good definition of trials, a roadie rides his bike over an obstacle, ie. a hill, now that clearly isn't trials. If you have no context of "Trials" then it is all just riding a bike, or cycling. If that was the case nothing in "Trials" would have developed, the bikes, the techniques, the components, the same could be said for downhill, free-ride,BMX.Bikes are developed specifically with trials in mind, hence the standover clearances, long front triangle, super bitey brakes, short rear end, MOD bikes.........This is a result of the natural development that resulted from overcomeing problems associated with techniques that are almost exclusively used in "Trials" for example When someone can do that without brakes I will openly admit to "Brakeless trials" being a valid statement.Look I'm not dissing the guy, he rips, but I just wouldn't call it trials, the second video is getting close. If in you substitute the rocks in the natural video for wooden ramps and ledges, you could see many BMX and 24" mountain bikers doing exactly what he is doing in most big skate parks, with and without brakes. I'll admit the term "trials" is getting a bit blurred, in MBUK a while back, there was an article on a talented young trials guy, can't remember his name, and I am not aiming this at him either, but they made a big thing about him doing "Squeekers" and tail stalling on the rail of a halfpipe. Things that BMXrs have been doing for many, many years in fact Danny Holroyd does the exact same things in "Leaps and bounds". In this video you can see a guy doing tailwhips and doing squeekers on the flat on a trials bike, does that mean he is doing trials, because he is on a trials bike?Jindabane driveway session.I don't think so. He is doing flatland, if he had done it after sidehopping up a ledge?Yes I would say it was trials, as he has used a technique pretty much exclusively related to "Bike trials".I am not disrespecting anyone that I have mentioned in this post, but I believe that a definition of any sport/activity is required in order for that sport/activity to develop.I am also not one for solid definitions either, trials has developed out of BMX, and at a point ceased to be BMX and became "Observed Trials" or "Trialsin", what these guys are doing is essential for trials to develop in a similar way to when it originally emerged out of BMX and in this way they are poineers in the sport, however I do not think that these videos by Chris Akrig can be labelled "Brakeless trials".....yet.And that, my friends is my rant for today. This is getting much closer and I believe he will be doing "Proper Brakeless trials" soon.Chris Akrigg videoI don't even know if he refers to it as "Brakeless Trials" but I have seen his stuff referred to as such bwhich is the object of my rant.Either way he is an awesome rider.Matt Edited March 6, 2009 by Matt Vandart

You didn't seem to use the front brake too much anyway, just little flicks here and there. If you can get that sidehop gap dialled with no brakes I'll be stupidly impressed... middleageman
Mmmm, off topic again, but I thought Cycle Trials was 1st developed in Spain, by Moto (motorcycle trials) riders looking for a way to keep fitand also as an introduction for younger riders into the sport? It's obviously picked up some outside influences along the way, BMX etc. but isn't that street Trials (no rules), not comp Trials (rules and regulations)?Hey, wtf do I know? Anyway, lachojski don't worry, the forum gets distracted sometimes. All the fun of the fair.Keep on riding and posting, and let's see your cycle man! middleageman. middleageman
Yeah Dr Doom, I don't think it's anything you've said, it's just sort of provoked a general discussion about brakeless trials.Nice one, surely the point of forums is to share and discuss ideas?Lachojski, cool ride man!
