haderz
I have been learning trials biking for the last 2 months on a old used Onza T-Bird to get the feel of things... I have been trying to learn to rear wheel hop but i can only do about 2 hops until my bike falls off to the left hand side. I have bought a new bike from eBay if this might help the learning? Its a GU Typhoon, would this bike maybe help improve my rear wheel hopping because i cannot get the hang of it!
ZHI-sam
ive been teaching my brother this, the idea is to keep your arms straight and knees bent. 2-3 is good to start, keep at it and you will be able to do 5 soon, after that it gets easyas for the gu, very nice bike and you will learn faster with it as it has better geo. im trying to get my brother a new frame as he also has a tbird atm, horid frames IMo
Dave!
Just watch a stack of vids...and then watch some more.....and if you ride with friends that can do it watch them.Just be patient and you will soon pick it up, but the general idea is to use your legs and body weight to balance. Jitters
I am getting the hang of it as well. I can sometimes hop about 7 or 8 times in place now - forwards and backwards a bit, just for fun and practice, but was stuck at the 2 or 3 hops for a while. The trick that helped me was not to think about the balancing part so much as keeping proper posture and setting up for the next hop. It seems to be working for me anyway. Good luck and keep practicing!
siyross
i have been learning this technique for about 5 weeks now. I started by just trying to get the balance right. You could rock onto your front wheel and then onto the back. the higher you have your front wheel the more upright you will need to stand on the pedals. try and keep your cranks as flat as possible. the reason that you fall over to the side is probably because you are trying too hard and coming up to fast. You could always find a crate or a wall to rest your front wheel on and then practice rocking back onto the back wheel and hopping a couple of times and then rest the front wheel down again. Ryan Leech has some great videos on you tube about all trials skills.Above all though just keep trying and trying but when you get frustrated take a break.I couldn't do any hops for a while and now i can do 17.You have made a great start, so be encouraged that you can do any at all, you will get betterForgot to mention to that it always helps to try hops on a very slight incline Edited February 23, 2009 by siyross

chrisbikefix
best advice i can give is start bu doing a small endo, so it makes it easier getting on the back wheel. Then like others have said keep your arms straight and knees bent!. I would of thought your going off to the side as your putting all your weight onto one foot! Try and keep nice and straight .... don't worrie if you go backwards as in hop back wards, thats natural! once you have figured it out you will then learn to hop on the spot, than your be back hopping like a god! Sprog!
I tried pedal hopping for atleast 4 months before I got it, after practicing on curbs. It usually comes just simply whilst on a ride really.
