Used to be called 'Ogginz' on here a few years back.Quit trials a few years back but kept my bike, well now I'm getting back into it.Would like some advice... What kind of breaks are about now? I have the old HS33s on the front as I had 2 sets of the new style ones which both leaked. New HS33s on the rear.Olly

pogo
Imo old style maggies are superior to the new design.

Luke_zoo
Welcome back mate Theres a few new brakes about echo brake ''DENG'' loads more to be honist i'm running F&R old style hs33's there much better then my DENG as my DENG slips, and leaks all the time for the echo brakes and the threads go soo easy on the DENGS if I'm right lads ? NVWOCI WVS
What are you riding? A 'standard' setup at the moment seems to be rear magura with a ground rim and a BB7 or Hope mini trials on the front. Front magura is fine, a lot of peolpe run them still, and many prefer them. If your hub and forks are disc compatible either, it's a lot more straight forward sticking with what you've got.Welcome back mate Theres a few new brakes about echo brake ''DENG'' loads more to be honist i'm running F&R old style hs33's there much better then my DENG as my DENG slips, and leaks all the time for the echo brakes and the threads go soo easy on the DENGS if I'm right lads ?Are you at school? Olly
Been riding quite a bit this weekend - Love it, good to be back!I'm quite a big guy, 6ft 6 and 15 stone so the brakes need to be superior!Hope monos - I remember them coming out as I stopped. My biggest concern is knocking them? I'm into techy stuff and spins so knocks might be common. My bike is custom built. If I can remember the parts are -Levelboss 1065 (Cant remember wheelbase properly, might be right?!)Middleburn cranks,Onza forks I think, the koxx ones snapped,Hope hubs - Have kings come down in price? Anything else out now?Tryall bits,Thats pretty much it.Back break was slipping a bit on weekend which doesn't give much confidence, want to get this sorted! Thanks for the info so far though guys.Anyone around my area? Used to be a load in Plymouth..Olly
LiamWood!
Think the levelboss 1065 wheelbase was 1065mm.As for brakes, what kind of pads you running? A good set of pads may sort you slipage and a good bleed tends to go a long way.
Olly
Pads, gone through so many, whats on there now?! Err i think there the koxx bloxx, dark brown.Fronts are the old red ones. The koxx bloxx didnt fit.A bleed is a good call, bikes been sat there for years!Olly
LiamWood!
Yeh give them both a bleed, also maybe worth wacking a grind on your rim becuase your running Koxx browns. A nice medium grind, let them bed in then it will be a beast!
Olly
You know I was just thinking of a nice grind!Want to do the front but I like gapping to front wheel so wouldn't be a good idea! Might have to give the discs a try.I'll update once done
LiamWood!
Im running a Hope Mono trial on the front of my bike with a 180mm roter. Bites and holds like a beast! 180mm should be large enough for a stock but you can also run a 200 mm roter i belive im sure i will be corrected if im wrong. Muel
Middleburn cranks,Hope hubs - Have kings come down in price? Anything else out now? Those are still the only decent 135mm freehub rear hubs, but in the last couple of years there have been a lot more options for having a front freewheel on a stock.I'm running a Pro2 Trials on the back with Middleburn Super Pro Trials cranks. (The proper original TI bashring ones. ) 16:13 gearing, best set-up ever!I'd recommend trying someones bike with a front disc, I much prefer them to front maggy but it's purely personal preferance. A lot of the TGS riders now run front vees intead of front maggys I think.
chrisbikefix
magura on the back and any type of v-brake or disc on the front .. cheap brakes i would look at the avid cable discs. Best on the market, hydrolic ones i would look at the hope range, there not cheap new .. but you can get them cheap second hand!

I have the old HS33s on the front as I had 2 sets of the new style ones which both leaked. New HS33s on the rear.OllyI also quit trials a few years back having ridden for years. I only wish I'd kept my Brisa B26 and could take it up again. Still, maybe I'll find a bike on here and give it another go ) From what I see, not much has changed except the ultra low frames. The rest seems similar to what's been about years although the names on the parts are all new!
Olly
My mate had a brisa, think he might still have it actually Ground my rims before I went out for dinner, first time I've ever done it and they feel awesome! Was going to have a quick ride in the street when I got back to test the new breaking power but ate WAY too much. Will have to wait till tomorrow.Looking forward to it One of the main things that has stopped me progressing is my lack of faith in the breaks. Hopefully this will eliminate the problem.Oh ye, T-brid Tom. On my third set of maguras Olly
J.KYDD
hope mono trials tend to be good for around 3-4 months before becoming a complete nightmare, if you want disc, go cable, go BB7. simple to fix, cheep, super powerful when run with a 203mm rotor.as for your rear brake, i run a 'new shape' maggie and its alrite, but there faaar from great. everytime they need a propper adjust you have to fork out another £4 for new plastic washers, they slip and the hold isnt amazing. As soon as mine breaks (which inevitably it will) im converting to V. Not so much bite but the hold is awesome and as you complained about a bit of brake slip id advice investing in a good V. shimanos shake temselves to pieces in 10minutes so get an avid, anything sd5 or above is good, of if your feeling super flush get an ultimate!hope this helpsjosh
Olly
Ground the rims and I'm very impressed with the results! Will go through pads quickly but can't put a price on good breaking power I will check out those front discs like you said Olly
adlir
I Would Suggest Hope Mono Trial On The Front Or Other Disk Brake And Magura HS33 on the Back
Olly
Went on another ride today, don't need discs, ground rims all the way 2 more weeks and should be back to where I left off
