It looks like you need some more chain wrapping around the rear sprocket from what I can tell. New chains generally need more wrap to get them to bed in. Did it actually have more chain wrapping around the rear sprocket though? Can you definitely not take another link out? Looks like it'd be close to going.I had the same problem myself at the weekend and I just fitted a mech and had the mech locked out and pushed up against the chainstay so I got maximum chain wrap.
