Alex Dark
Right, completely noobish question :Should i use an Echo rear rim or try-all? Rims being the 07 echo urban, or the newer try-all 47mm. I don't *think* im a basher, but i am going bigger now, and im not the 100% smoothest rider around...although i wouldnt consider myself one of the harshest.I ride street, both tgs and real streety stuff. Had a try-all first, no problems with that although only dropped around 6/7ft on it...then changed to echo 07 which i got for free. So looking to change to a colour-coded, better condition rim.So, would a try-all hold up? both pretty much as new mind...i just dont want to have to case this try-all to find out. I'm doing up to 10ft drops at the moment, u to 7ft static gaps etc, so im not going huge yet. Anyone got any advice for me please?May as well whack a little vote up.I've got both to hand at the moment mind. 170g difference is the main reason I'd try the try-all.Edit: Please put reasons though, not just "echo is da best" oh, and if you know me and my riding style etc, please answer this Edited February 12, 2009 by Alex Dark
N.Wood
Try-All will be fine dude, I've never even buckled one let alone dented or whatever.
Alex Dark
Try-All will be fine dude, I've never even buckled one let alone dented or whatever.so you think it'll be fine with my riding? to be fair woody...you are felix mucke standard smooth, so you could probably run dual x519s and get away with it

Ben John-Hynes
Try-all rims grind really badly. And when you DO get a decent one, it'll blunt quite quickly. But even though they're quite soft, I've never really dented a try-all one too badly. It depends on what you want, a brake that'll last without having to grind as often, or a light one that you'll have to grind a bit more often. Gogz-
My one is doing fine . my biggest drop has only been like 6-7 ft, A friend of mine has had his for a year and a half and its only just starting to die (he does bigger stuff than me btw) . If you keep all the spokes tight you shouldn't have any problems. My grind lasted about 5 months but then i just stuck some nice soft sticky pads on, job done! A grind isn't always necessary you can get the same bite and hold from different pads and set up's. Alex Dark
im not exatcly heavy...etc, but i do like a nice working brake...and i do tend to rely on it. with my echo im grinding once a month because my grind gets so covered in muck all the time as i have to ride 3+ miles down muddy back lanes to my riding spot

Aaron.Tottman
Try-all rears are bloody good rims.used one for about 2 years just using tar. dented it once... took a grind to it and i was tueing it every drop.I don't consider me to be a basher but everone has there moments.i'm running echo at the minute have done for nerly a year and ain't budged even after i think 3 grinds................maybe 2. Ben John-Hynes
If you grind your Echo once every month, I'd keep that one. If you got a koxx one you'd have to grind it o much more than that.
LiamWood!
My echo 07 rim ended up like a hexagon after about 2 -3 days. Edited February 12, 2009 by LiamWood!
Adrian
well it depends if you want a stronger rim which holds grinds long and has a flater braking surf surf for a better break pad set up (echo 07)...or a weaker rim which doesnt hold grinds for very long and has an angles braking surface for a crapper set up (try-all)...and yea if you havnt broken it it doesnt mean its the best, it means you havent rode hard enough... as you also wouldnt break an echo 07...the last few try-alls i had i killed in literally a couple of weeks, and a couple of drop gaps for one...echo 07's last about month if not longer, and my brakes are soooooooooooooo much better with them.and tartybike built all my wheels btw#and i ride stock
Gogz-
Could just use a softer compound pad and not have to grind it at all if not two or three times a year. Are you actually riding with a wet rim or is your rim gets covered with mud? If your pads are all manky with mud and stuff no matter what grind or pads are its never going to work 100%.Try using a damp louth always works for me on the rim and sand the pads when they need it.Regular grinding will always wear any rim out quicker. N.Wood
and yea if you havnt broken it it doesnt mean its the best, it means you havent rode hard enough... as you also wouldnt break an echo 07...If that is aimed at me, I ran an Echo '07 for a while before the Try-All and dented it once, but that was it.I guess I should ride harder...
