Matt Kerley
hey people ive just got some new foam grips and i have used hairspray to put them on and one week later they are still moving around the bar how can i stop this? ginger allen echo
hmm i dont think you can stop them form moving. If you get some more grips, get trialtech foams (if havnt allready got them) and use tht alcohol gel you get in hospitals to get them on. Or use an air compresser.ginger allen

onza-ian
Try spraying brake or clutch cleaner on the bars and/or inside of the grips, its designed to evaporate leaving no oil or residue. I race motorbikes aswell and do this on my racebike grips to - havent slipped once. Works a treat.
Harris
I had the same problem the other day, i tried numerous things, and then i tried aftershave lol, i put a few squirts in each grip, slipped them on and left them, when i got my bike after school they were rock solid. So yeah try that, should work for you aswell CheersTom
Le @ Tnn Engineering
Hi matei run foam grips i use a small drop of super glue on each end of the grip. it wont go anywhere. when you need to remove just gently separate the foam from the bar with a flat screw driver then you can rotate the grip re glue for more life outta your grips. Rumplestiltskin
JJhey said: That would make them slip of woulden't it No, leave the bike for a few hours and it just evaporates, leaving the grips solidly locked in place. It doesn't matter what you use to get the grip on - if you instantly ride without giving your liquid of choice time to set/evaporate then it's not going to have time to stick the grips to the bars.I generally use water to slide my grips on - the inside of the grip is sticky enough to adhere to the bar without any extra adhseive, so I'm using the water for lubricant alone. Once it's dried off, the grips natural friction keep them on the bars.If you're using hairspray, I'm assuming you're using it for both lubrication and for adhering it to the bar. Hairspray isn't generally noted for it's adhesive properties when it come to rubber and metal, so you might as well use something with a decent sticking ability. Spray paint generally works well. Clean the inside of your grips and the surface of your bars to make sure there isn't any residue from the hairspray, spray a liberal amount of paint into the grip and slide it onto the bar. Leave it to set for a few hours, and the grips should be firmly stuck to the bar.If all else fails, you could try lock on grips. They have a plastic sheath inside them which is tightened at either end by an allen bolt, so you're bolting them to the bars rather than sticking them. They're available from pretty much every half decent bike shop nowadays. If you have a halfords local to you, you should be able to get some from there.
