Swervin
Hi Everyone.I am building a trials bike from scratch and I have chosen the manifesto as my frame( don't post any foolish comments I know some people hate the frame) I am deciding on rims right now. I have heard great things about the Echo Urban rims. The thing is I will be running 26 inch rims and am curious will I have clearance issues as the rear rim is 46mm wide!!Since I have no clue when or if I will become a full member on this forum I will post the rest of my bike build questions in here to avoid cluttering up the place.I am going with..-Juicy 7 carbon front disc-Magura Hs33 rear-Sram xo shifterI need to decide on the rest of the specs still. Any input would be great but if you have knowledge about my specific rim clearance question please let me knowRespectS
Alex Dark
id personally go for a front echo rim...insane strength, but lighter and more likely to fit. If this is still too wide, yoi can easily use tensile offset mounts for your maguras, to nring the slaves farther away from the rimMost people'll probably tell you to get an alexdx32 for that build though. Swervin
I was just about to edit my post to ask if I could just use a front echo as my rear rim SO I CAN use a front rim on the rear? sorry for all the dumb questions but I have to order from overseas so I cant make mistakes.I can get the ECHO sl front rims at 38mm wide which is very likely to fit opposed to the 46mm monsters.why go the Alex32 rim??really appreciate your help Alex DarkThe echos just look so sick..wanna squeeze em in there if possible
Jack_M
Many people will recomend the DX32 because it is tried and tested, and certainly will fit in the norco frame. In addition it holds a grind really well.I agree that an echo front rim should work fine too (so long as its a double wall one... not sure whether they do single wall but if they do, that may be too weak). There is a small chance it would be too wide. Im not honestly sure.
Swervin
I think I am going to run a front Echo Urban rim on both the front and the back. they are double walled and 40mm wide.I have been able to find one in Canada but the other one I will have to order from www.selectbikes.com in the U.K. . Does anyone have experience dealing with them. I have heard a few issues with one of the U.K. trials shops but cant remember which one it is. Alex Dark
select is on of the best shops over here, yes it is trials uk with the bad rep now.A front echo rim on the back should be fine.
ZHI-sam
dont alex make a front rip thats thinner? i saw one somewhere anyways, as long as you get the latest echo's you will be ok, the 06 were pants and 07 wernt much better. koxx tryalls are another choice too
Swervin
Thanks guys I have found a store in Vancouver, much closer for me than the U.k. He has a Echo Urban front rim(40mm) which I intend to run as my rear rim. They only have one so now I just need to find a colored matched rim to use up front.I am doing a red rim scheme so the Alex rims are pretty much out. I have seen a very similar red rim which hopefully will pair well with the Echo Urban so Ill let you guys know.http://www.hbtrials.com/photos/meta/meta_p.../meta_rims1.jpghttp://tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?produc...;category_id=25I am also planning running a 28t front cassette. I know trials usually keep it smaller But I want to be able to to some street, trials and just some all around riding without being stuck under 10 mph. I have heard that Chris Akrigg runs a 28t up front no? THOUGHTS??any other comments are greatly appreciated.S
lankyri
dx32 is prob the best on another note, how is toronto for riding i went there with my college but to be honest i didnt really see anything there was a bit by the rodger centre, also if your in the centre go to a pizza place opposite a hotel (cant remember the name now) does some lovely pizzas
Simpson
dx32 is prob the bestAgreed, why would you get some sexy classy Norco, and stick 2 a penny deng rims on it? It may be the best option but its kind of like getting a classic car, and sticking a tacky boy racer spoiler on it.... keep it old school and original man. Swervin
lankyriToronto has really good XC riding and 'we' are building what should be a really good bike /skate park near the waterfront(slow going though). There is a lot of nice rocks and boulders near me at the lake and the financial district looks to have some nice challenges.the toy cops over here though hassle you like crazy.SimpsonI didn't really understand your comment. you just don't like the look of the rims? I'm kind of gonna go for a bit of flash on the bike but not as flashy as this, however I think this bike looks nice.http://tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?produc...;category_id=47I am having difficulty finding a set of echos near me so I guess I may go Alex rims in the end. Swervin
Hi Simpson,Glad to see someone on here with some respect for the Norco brand, uncommon on a lot of trials sites that Ive seen. I didn't plan on building it up that flashy or anything. Just the red rims to go with the red Norco lettering outline. No red brake levers or brake booster. They may be common from where you are from but it is rare to see any trials bike in Toronto. If you have any pics of nicely tricked out norco Manifesto feel free to post up here or any other pics you think could give me ideas as to how to deck this frame out.I guess red rims may be asking for trouble as Toronto is nuts, like so many other places for bike thief's (scum of the earth!)any other tips on how to set her up would be great guys. I am pretty firm on having gears though. at least to start ...I can change around as I go.S
