that NBR dude
First off, lets get all the mockery out of the way with the fact that I own a french car, thats big and unexciting to drive.......Good, so to the problem.Ive got a '98 Citroen Synergie 2.0l petrol. Recently (past week or 2) I've had some issues with it. When I drive along, sometimes the engine will loose power for a second or two, as if its about to cut out, then kind of coughs and carrys on driving. It also, when at low revs (slowing down for a junction or whatever) the engine will cut out for no reason. It doesnt seem to do it all the time, just when it feels bored or something. It generally doesnt drive as well as it did, and feels kind of lumpy when you rev it or pull away.Ive tried running some injector cleaner through it, and done all the basic service stuff, but its still the same. I've also recently googled the symptoms to see if anything came up, and it seems they are identical to the symptoms suffered a couple of years back with that Supermarket Petrol problem that killed loads of cars. Now I will confess I do use supermarket petrol, because I'm cheap and it costs over £100 to fill my tank. Could it be this? There doesnt seem to be any more reports since, of dodgy fuel from supermarkets though. I will book it in for a check-up, but I thought I'd seek some advice from the knowledgable people on here first.ThanksAndy

Haz
Sounds like a broken idle air control valve to me.I'm guessing it cuts out as you come off the power when you slow down?

Haz
Yeah, definitely sounding like a busted Idle Air Control Valve.Probably about £25 quid to replace and will take ten minutes.Obviously I can't be certain, so it could be worth speaking to a dealer about it, but I'm 90%. 531joshua
Couldn't it be the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve? If you've been sticking crap petrol in it, a lot of carbon could build up and block your EGR valve, causing the car to run like rubbish / cut out at low revs...Just happened to my mate, he's got a Corsa that burns oil like a 2-stroke, guessing that could be why his EGR valve clogged up.Idle control valve is a possible culprit, although if it was that, surely the engine would only cut out when the RPM drops below the idle?http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/index.php - I find that quite a good forum for help on french cars Good luck getting it sorted.
