24 Vs 26 For Street Riding

LEON

Recommended Posts

Right, i've ridden proper street trials bikes for over 10 years now, rode a gu for about 6 months in that time, My favourites were....

Zebdi - 1025 wb

Zero - 1025 wb but really slack head angle

Pace - 1023 wb

Norco - 1016 wb and very low bb (loved it)

I've read up a bit on the inspried & noticed its 1040 wb, i know the wheels are smaller but i've never felt comfy on anything over 1025 wb, a pashley 26mhz at 1040 was too long......

I had a little go on one recently and to be honest i prefer the feel of my 26". The bike had a silly echo stem & some half arsed risers tilted forwards.

So i suppose my question is....What's gonna be better for manuals bunnyhops & general streetyness, i don't care how it feels on the back wheel or how it sidehops.

Its just everything felt very forced on the inspired, i dont think the smaller wheels would compensate me for the extra 15mm wheelbase. I'm starting to think i'd be better off staying with 26".

Opinions wanted from people who have ridden proper streetbikes in a streety manner and then gone to 24" and are able to offer an unbiased opinion.

Not all 24" bikes are the same geo as the inspired. You see to be generalising quite a lot there.

I've ridden very streety 26" bikes, over the years, and in my time out of trials, I was still riding a BMX a lot. I can honestly say my 24" leeson is the most fun bike I've ever owned for streety stuff, but I have it set up with a 75mm stem and 2.5" risers in a very upright position. It's very short, and has very streety geo.

i have always enjoyed riding shoter bikes, and have stuck with a high rise bar setup pretty much all he time ive ridden. After owning a few bases, zebber, mhz, megamo radical, curtis and echo stocks i tried 24. i had a onza zoot which is supposed to be incredibly similar to the inspired (have also ridden an inspired), and found them to real nice but not really any better than a stock for streety shizzle. My ghz has to be my favourite bike ive owned now, its so easy for everyhting, its a perfect all rounder bike. the only 24 i have ever ridden that felt super whippy and bmx like in handling is DJBs leeson, its about a perfect street machine as you can get!

Personally id stick with stock (Y)

I've never had a problem with reach, i try at least 4 different stems on any bike i have. It's only frames from about 1030 onwards that feel like they're holding me back.

It's just the particular inspired i tried didn't do anything for me, neither did Joe mahers, both had bar n stems i'd not use but i don't wanna buy a full bike in the hope that it'll feel ok.

Suppose yea, my only real reason was that there's virtually no short stocks made anymore, I'm not paying £500 quid for a norco, so maybe a leeson's the way forward. I've got a zebdi at the mo and an old steel megamo (any ideas what the wheelbase on that is?)

You considered taking reach into account rather than just wheelbase?

^ yep, reach measurement is generally more important than wb measurement. Wb doesn't matter to me, as long as the reach is appropriate.

But, if you're hellbent over a 1025 bike, 24uk frames have that wb. Or you could get a custom marinobike frame made.

That bikes lovely, and pretty much how i'd have mine set up, shame i can't have a quick ride on one like that & see how it feels.Any sort of measurements you could get would be cool yea.

I'm just trying to recreate my old norco, effortless bunnyhops regardless of stem length & bar height.

yea, sounds like you need a 24" there almost as capable as a 26" for trials stuff, but they feel like abmx, light and whippy for any streety bits. just puts a bit more fun and variety into your ride.

if you are thinking of buying a leeson ive got one thing to say.

Clive Leeson is a decent, honest bloke and makes one hell of a bike. i do reccomend him.

ultimately go round and ride a fair few bikes and figure out what u like. its the only way to decide, cause its all personal choice.

Norcos hav a very low bb rise, ive seen ryans leechs and it looks alot lower then a pashley or steel megamo.

My steel megamo is 1030 http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....howtopic=130834, ive gone bk to mine for abit till i get my new inspired frame this wk.

After riding it at the wkd, its great for street but on natural it feels horrible with the low bb rise, as ive been riding my inspired that has a higher one which feels great.

Leon if your at london at end the month, hav a go on mine, as i tend to hav a gd setup on my 24inch bikes, and u may like it.

Sadly I wont be at london, still healing from a motorbike crash, got open wounds and a bit of mrsa, nice!!

John I have the very same megamo as you here, getting it painted on saturday & gonna see how it rides, the norcos negative bb rise was admittedly crap for true "trials" stuff but the frames made for a short sus fork, and even with pashley forks on i still loved it & it's been my favourite bike ever!!

And by the way what's rim clearance like on that megamo?

Miss it :(
