JTM
Its the little square silver one just to the right of the middle of the pic. Its dying. How do I get it off? And where can I get a replacement fan? Thanks
forteh
There is usually a little plastic pushpin either side of the fan, you should be able to dismount the entire heatsink and replace it for 5-10 quid You might need to take the motherboard out of the case though, have a look and see if you can release it without doing so. Replacements can be bought from overclockers.co.uk, you need a northbridge heatsink/fan; either a passive (quieter) or active (more effective) solution should be available. Danny
I put one of these on my old motherboard when the fan died....http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....&subcat=399You'll have to take the motherboard out to fit it though. JTM
Not sure if that will fit under my graphics cards fan wire thing? Is that all I need or does it need thermal paste under it etc?
forteh
If you can unscrew the current fan from the northbridge heatsink then you should be able to replace it with the 40mm fan you linked to, if not (I know some mobos have the fan sort of integrated into the heatsink) then you will need to replace the heatsink; if so you will need some thermal paste.Fromthe photo it looks as though yours is an integrated fan/heatsink, you can always try to resurrect the fan by cleaning it out with some electrical contact spray cleaner, you should get it off the motherboard first though
