matt-richardson
Hey,I've got a Avid BB5 on my dirt jump bike, was thinking about upgrading to disk fork on my Mod and was going to take the BB5 off the dirt jumper and put it onto the mod.But i always here people talking about the BB7 being used for trials, but have never heard anything about the BB5 being used.So i was wondering that when i do finally upgrade would the BB5 be any good or should i just get myself a Hydro or a BB7? Lewis-Trials
It seem's everyone use's the BB7 because it's got more power and is more adjustable than the BB5. If you were going to get a Hydraulic disk brake i would go for the magura loiuse, julie, Hope.
matt-richardson
Yeah but with a good pad and cable set up would there be that much of a difference between the BB7 and BB5?
Guest
I use a bb5 on the forn works like a dream and a hope mono trial on the rear, i have 4 bb5's one on my commencal one on my 221pr and 2 on my specialized p1 , they are one of the best brakes i have had. the only difference in power between the mono trial and bb5 is that the mono trial is more responsive that's all, but it is down to the hydraulic pistons etc. basicly for 35 quid of ebay i would by a bb5. Simpson
BB7's have adjustable TPA's on both sides of the caliper
davey1991
BB7's have adjustable TPA's on both sides of the caliperAlso BB7's have bigger pads similar to those in the avid hydraulics, BB5's have small round pads.I find BB5's better to be honest they feel so much stronger and there cheaper. Lewis-Trials
You can get a BB5 working better than an BB7 if you upgrade the lever and cables wisely.
am-i-bothered
I had a magura louise which came with my echo team, the master cylinder blew on the second ride I had it. So i got another master cylinder for it and then the bottom end leaked. So i biffed it and got myself a bb7 and it's one of the best brakes ive ever had! matt-richardson
Seeing as I already have the BB5 I think once I can afford new forks and front wheel then I'll just stick that on there and see how it goes, I can always just go get a BB7 or hydro afterwards if the BB5 isn't working as I want. matt-richardson
Yeah I meant if it wasnt performing as I wish, not as in it braking. Had it for about six months and its been amazing on my dirt jump bike so hopefully I won't have any problems.
